I haven’t used them but my brother and daughter have, and had good results.
They both also report that they get broken really easily when weeding or moving plants around or careless digging.
And they need to be on the bigger side to work as they should.
You could try your own cheaper version by gluing two similar terracotta pots together, silicone the bottom hole to stop water leaking out and stick a filler hose in the top.

All of what ruby said is correct.
a)They don’t supply he quantity of water required so they need to be much larger.
b) They do get broken quuite a lot.
c) You can easily make ones to suit your own needs.
