Subject: Ball Lightning

A spectrograph of ball lightning has shown emission lines corresponding to silicon, iron, and calcium, suggesting a link to the soil from which the lightning strike may have vaporized these elements. This finding supports the hypothesis that at least some ball lightning is formed by vaporized silicon from the ground, with the nanoparticles burning in the atmosphere. Other spectral analysis has also identified emission lines from oxygen and nitrogen, and detected oscillations in their intensity.
