As some of us have been knitting lately, I have made a thread.

kii – have you started knitting yet?

ruby – I’ve not done a lot of knitting and I realized I don’t actually know the “right” way to join the pieces. I think I just made something up. The interwebs tell me about mattress stitch, but apparently it can also be done with crochet. I like the idea of the crochet – it’s supposed to give you an invisible seam. How do you do it?

buffy…not yet. I need to buy a comfortable chair and can’t make up my mind about which one I want.

Arts…yes, Ravelry is great. The shawl I want to renew my knitting skills with is from there.

I’ve got about 20 rows left until the back is finished. I just need to not get distracted by gardening and plants and afternoon naps.

Ugh…casting off in purl isn’t fun. And I’ve been working off the wrong pattern, so not raglan sleeves but set in sleeves. I’m not undoing it. I can cope with set in sleeves. And it’s an excuse to do another one when I finish this one. I did wonder that the shaping didn’t seem quite right. But it’s so many years since I did a jumper.

TV now.

You’ll be the talk of the village: ‘Have you seen Buffy in her set in sleeves?’

I have just cast on a cotton hat – just doing simple things to use up my stash. Trying to work out what my next big project will be.

this is my last project – A Stephen West Shawl

I try to avoid doing seems – I love knitting in the round. The best way to join seems is by mattress stitch. there are some very good youtube videos – Very Pink Knits is one of my favourites

Thank you. I think I might try the crochet join across a shoulder and see what it looks like. I think it will be obvious using the graded colour wool I am using, so I will then have to decide if I want the seams to feature. But I’ve only got the back done so far. And I’ve started on the band for the front.

Hooray for knitting!

Buffy, learning about mattress stitch was a game changer for my projects, before that I used a very messy back stitch and hated doing it. Mattress stitch is much neater and I use it often, which means I now count rows to get my seams even. But like Brindy I now knit in the round whenever I can. Bendigo Woollen Mills stock a good range of round needles in different lengths so I have a few short ones for sleeve knitting.

Brindabellas, that shawl is gorgeous! Love the colours and patterns!

And I’m glad Arts mentioned Ravelry, I use it often….their advanced search function is really good. My latest project is a dress for my 2 year old great grand daughter, I put in the parameters of knitting, free, dress, toddler and got 457 patterns to choose from. I could have narrowed it down to yarn weight and yardage but I have plenty of options stashed away to choose from.
