We’ll watch the early fireworks on TV, celebrate NZ NY, then off to bed until next year.

I’ll be watching the midnight fireworks, but just reading and listening to music before then.

I’m frightened by the prospect of more grief and mourning in ’26, but there’ll be some good things too.

And I’ll be getting a grip and drastically cutting my eating and drinking, or I too may not last the whole year.

I’ve just started watching Saltburn, and will be asleep long before midnight.

Our neighbours from across the road came over when we returned yesterday, to say they’d come over this arvo. They did, we celebrated the new year and they’ve gone home.

We’ve had a few fireworks explosions already. Private. Close by. Illegal, noisy.

Labor will retain government in South Australia. The Libs will be reduced to a single-digit seat count in the lowe house.
In the Victorian election, Labor will end up with a minority government relying on support from the Greens, who will use the opportunity to enforce electoral reform in the upper house.

In the US midterms, Democrats will regain the House but not the Senate.

Donald Trump will be impeached at least once but not convicted.

Argentina will win the FIFA world cup. Australia will be eliminated in the second round.

Sinners will win the Oscar for Best Picture.

Kerr and Mewis will have another baby.

Sir William Deane will pass away.

Yes. Well said. 2026 eh. I recall as a youngster thinking that the year 2000 was so impossibly far away that I would be dead by then. Proved wrong by the fact that I’m still here. Hope 2026 turns into a better year than the world has been having of late.
