Subject: Vermiculite/Perlite

I’m planning on repotting my poor neglected Epis and wanted to try something new to lighten the mix and improve drainage.

I thought I was buying perlite but I had the names mixed up and came home with vermiculite.

I’ve never used either before so I’m not sure if I should use it or exchange it. Any expert advice out there?

That was fascinating, thanks trichrome.

I wonder if Vermiculture would be more suited to places with low rainfall and long dry summers. My pots are very rarely soggy – always too dry. But then they’re well overdue for some invigoration, wetting agent and mulch.

expensive eh?

For much of my life, whenever I see potting mixes containing either of the above, I throw them away.

Perhaps I should have sold it.

Well, if you aren’t gong to be selling it to poor unfortunates..

You should use real sand. The heaviosity is preferable to the awkwardacity.
