Sinner v Djokovic 2 sets all

I thought that Djoker would have fallen over by now. But then he had 2 walkover wins.

That is a surprising result. I had expected Sinner the drug cheat to beat Novax the Djoker in 3 sets. If Musetti had not injured himself, Novax was out. When I went to bed, Novax was well up in the second. But I still didn’t expect a win.

So Novax vs Alcatraz the rock, the island.

I agree.

Novak Djokovic will face Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open men’s singles final after beating defending champion Jannik Sinner 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in four hours and nine minutes.

It was the second epic semifinal of the day after top seed Alcaraz beat third seed Alexander Zverev in the third-longest Australian Open match ever — 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-7(3), 6-7(4), 7-5 in five hours and 27 minutes — to reach his first final at Melbourne Park.

__

I watched the Djoker v Sinner match. Djoker player out of his skin and it went down to the wire. The first semi was apparently epic with its length and dramas around Alcatraz having a groin injury or cramping.

The semifinals of these events often produce the most gripping matches.

He’s won the first set but I expect the Knobbervic to fade away as the match progresses.

Alcaraz knocks over Djoker in 4 sets pretty much as expected.

So, Alcaraz defeats Djokovic 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5

Giving him a career grand slam

.
.

And pain and disappointment for the brilliant but divisive Djoker.

Screaming Sabalenka blows a 6-3, 4-1 lead in quarter-final match against Diana Shnaider to crash out 3-6, 7-5, 6-0

Semis will be Marta Kostyuk vs Mirra Andreeva, Diana Shnaider vs Qualifier Maja Chwalińska

Amongst the men, other than Zverev, the top seeds have fallen away.

Some new names popping up.

Maja Chwalinska battles past Shnaider 7-6 6-4 to set up final against Andreeva. The first time a qualifier has gone this deep.

In the men’s semis…

Matteo Arnaldi vs Flavio Cobolli ..all Italian affair

Alexander Zverev vs Jakub Menšík

Might need more matchsticks for eyelids…

Zverev knocked off Menšík in 4 sets… faces outsider Flavio Cobolli in the final.. Matteo Arnaldi having pulled out due to illness.

More interesting maybe will be the women’s final..

19 y o Andreeva v qualifier Chwalinska

Zverev’s best opportunity to get a major so far.

Women’s? Yes, interesting.

Heavy favourite Andreeva beats Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 for first slam title.. very windy conditions.

Zverev wins the final over Cobolli 6-1 4-6 6-4 6-7 6-1

The tall, hairy, immensely likeable (despite multiple dv allegations) German was due for a title (according to several commentators) due to him coming close on a few occasions.
