I think I have been bitten by fleas, sitting on my lounge in the loungeroom of my pet-free house.

There are possums in the (filled in, boarded up) chimney, and my lounge is near it. (Landlords have been informed, don’t know what they’re planning to do about the possums, or when). If the possums had fleas, would it be possible for them to get through, for example, gaps in the chimney cladding, and fall onto the lounge?

I thought it may have been mossies but I saw a little black thing on me earlier and just got to wondering ….

There are over 2,000 kinds of fleas around the world. These tiny insects are parasites that live on a host’s blood by biting the skin and sucking the blood to feed. They can jump as high as 16 inches and can start laying eggs soon after their very first meal. When fleas infest a home it can be a nightmare. They can lay up to 50 eggs at a time, covering your home in thousands upon thousands of descendants in as little as a month’s time.

Fleas in the house is no fun – been there.

I have a mouse (or two) in the house atm, but can’t find my mouse trap.

They may have come with rodents. I find flea bombs very good.

It’s possible the last residents had animals in there? How long you been there Yeehah?
I believe the fleas can just kick back with a cool drink and a deckchair waiting for conditions to be right? A bit of activity in the house can get ‘em going again. Is that possible?

Vibrations trigger hatching, which is why they suddenly appear in a previously empty house.
