I have this program that has turned up on my computer that says I have 25 virus’ and do I want to remove them. Problem is the program is very suspect, I cant remove it and it wont do anything until I give over my credit card details.

It is called Antimalware Doctor, anyone know of it?

they are dodgy, don’t hand over any money. Trouble is the messages won’t stop until you get rid of the malware that is creating them which is not that easy. Just doing a search came up with this Don’t know anything about them but there seems to be a free version. Or you can ask over at the tech talk forum for advise.

get all files you want on to disc or another harddrive, and reformat the main harddrive and then reinstall all the stuff you want. Might have a look when in at home formating would be my last option

I format the computer once every 1-2 years.

1. I’d highly recommend a visit to the good folks at tech Talk. There are a number of experts in malware and its removal. They don’t bite.

http://www2b.abc.net.au/science/techtalk/

2. Malwarebytes – as suggested above is very good and will probably be the first thing recommended by the TT folk.

Thank Dog for nerdy brother who works for IBM.

Turned out to be a very nasty piece of malware that required full format and scrubbing of all documents, its gone now. Apparently it is from the Russian Mafia and gets re badged evry couple of weeks, he had seen it in a few other disguises before.

So how did it get on your computer in the first place, did Nerdy Bro say? A site that you visited? An email you opened (or didn’t open)?

It was a site I visited, my computer gave me warning when it happened and I pulled the dongle straight away but it was already too late. I had been on the site before with no problems, thought it was safe.
