If I cut it nearly to the ground do you think it’ll survive and reshoot?

according to this site “Heavy pruning can be carried out at any time through the summer after the flowering period.” But I don’t know if that includes cutting it to the ground.

Personally I’d rather they went but MrBL likes them.

I would breast the plant, but not cut back to the ground.

well you could cut them down saying it is a hard prune, then if they don’t grow then, oh well!

I think a bit more info is required here.

There is a row of them that were behind the Min-a-mins I took out. Because they had plants in front of them they have been pushed out of shape and all the foliage is right on top. Like a row of demented topiaries.

I want to force growth from low down.

Breasting is a popular way of treating hedges. If you continue to trim, then you get real woody growth on the outer extremes of each branch. But Breasting will prune back to woody short stems so that all the new growth can be allowed to grow and then pruned to trim up the hedge.

I did but I didn’t really uderstand it, plus would it work on a shrub with about a metre and a half of bare trunk.

A row of shrubs more than a hedge.

they are a little sad… and I know what you mean by if they don’t survive then “oh well”. In that case, I would prune down to that middle fence rail. Then see what happens.

That was my plan. If it was just up to me I’d replace them with some callistemons for the birds. It’d be pretty cheap if I used tubestock.

I like them like they are Bubba. Trim and shape them a bit and Bob’s your Uncle. What do you plan for in front of them? That’s probably important.

They look worse in real life Pom and anyway it’s too late. They’ve had their heads chopped off.

If they come back I’ll decide on something for in front then.
