Pug photos will happen tomorrow. The two visitors are running around the house and we are trying to get them to settle down and go to bed. We intend to take them to the bakery for breakfast in the morning before my brother goes back to Melbourne. I’ll try to remember to take the camera with us and take some Cafe Pug pictures.

Forgot the camera. But they are here for 3 weeks, so there is plenty of time. My brother has headed back, so now we have two Pugs searching the house. They will settle down.

He was inside in his beanbag having a catchup nap after going to the bakery for breakfast (and being pushed back home in his “chariot”). He’s pretty much ignoring these two.

I don’t let dogs lick my face/head. This morning the visiting Pugs felt it necessary to lick my feet. I coped with that OK. We have now walked them. It’s a lot more structured when we walk them than when my brother walks them. They are both on fixed length leads and before long they will know how to heel properly and to sit at roadsides. He’s got an extendable lead for Tully and he lets Reuben off. I would not ever do that. He lives in Ivanhoe in Melbourne. I told him while they are with us, they comply with our rules…if you are off-property, you are on-lead. Far too many trucks around here. There’s half an acre for free running in the backyard.

They mill. He just stands about being demented. He is more than twice their age. I’m not sure he is even noticing them much.

All of them attended my showering. Hei Long has always done that, he likes to get under the towel on the rack and peer out from underneath it. The others just came to see what was going on.

Zeus attended my showering. The shower is open, no door. He wandered to the edge and drank water, sniffed the non-slip bath mat, chewed the corner of the floor mat, and is now doing zoomies around the house.

I meant to say when you posted…my cousin’s husband (ex mine clearer with PTSD) had a beautiful black lab service dog who went pretty much everywhere with D. He was Zeus. He died a few months ago. I don’t know how D is managing without him or if he will get another service dog. Zeus was very good for D.

Although Hei Long prefers to do Pug of Veil/Pantry Pug. He has always done this veiling thing since he was a puppy. Often he will stand there with the “veil” just revealing his eyes, draped over his ears.

Yes, a small breakfast and a bigger dinner. The blondes have a chewstick each for breakfast. Hei Long has a tablespoon of kangaroo kibble and a dessertspoon of canned muck. At teatime the blondes have a portion each of their kibble and a dessert of a taste of dried liver. Hei Long has a tablespoon of kangaroo kibble, some heart (chicken or lamb) or some mince and another dessertspoon of canned muck. Long used to have chicken drumsticks or wings but he can no longer really crunch them up properly now. He doesn’t mind munging on a wing for something to do sometimes.

We’re trying Jellybean on Lyka. It’s very expensive, but she loves it. Her regular stuff was getting left until she was really hungry.

Why is their dinner bigger than their breakfast?

:( Hei Long getting older. Glad munging is an enjoyable thing to do.

It’s irrelevent how much is given at each meal. It’s just a portion of food per day, divvied up.

The Pandemonium of Pugs had to hassle Mr buffy for feeding tonight. No pictures, sorry. I lit the woodheater today and they found out about lying about on a sheepskin in front of it. But I couldn’t get a photo because when I moved they immediately ran to my feet begging.

I’ve got a Cute Pug story. An ad for guide dogs came on the TV a short while ago, with very cute puppies licking each other’s faces and looking adorable to bring in the donations. Tully (the girl) noticed it and stood very intently looking at the puppies until the ad finished and then wasn’t interested in the TV any more. We will be watching some TV again later, I shall make sure I take my camera in that room with me and see if we get a repeat performance.

In pug watching, near the beach, two blondes and one black pug were sighted. They were enjoying themselves.

Hoping there is a repeat performance.

Here is the Old Man Hei Long sitting on the arm of Mr buffy’s armchair and then doing his Toby Mug Pug thing.

……….

The two blondes in their beanbag.

And everyone “watching TV”. Hei Long is perched on Bruna’s beanbag in Bruna’s basket. The beanbag was beside our bed when she was here, but I piled it into her loungeroom basket after the green dream experience and Long liked the resulting mountain as somewhere to sleep inside while we watch TV.

And…we have just been saved from something by the very barky blondes. I’m not sure if they just discovered that the flames flicker in the woodheater or if they saw their reflection in the glass. But they were determined to bark whatever it was away. I don’t think anyone burnt their nose on the glass, I didn’t hear a sizzle or a yelp of pain. One of our Boxers learnt about the hot glass years ago.

Discretion being the better part of valour, I’ve just pulled out the firescreen and put it up in front of the woodheater to keep them away.

I haven’t done a Pug Proclamation for a few days. I’d forgotten about Orbital Pugs. Hei Long used to orbit me all the time but is getting a bit slow. At the moment I’ve got two fast moons and slow old black one orbiting me a lot of the time. The blondes are not always fast enough, but as I tell them, if they put their feet under mine, I will step on their toes. Anyway, we’ve just had feeding time at the Puggery.

Hei Long gets fed first, but he is shut in the yard because he is a slow eater.

………

The blondes hoover up their food next to each other, watching the “other one” just in case.

And then they stand around watching Hei Long eat. I suspect the slow eating is not all to do with age…when he has finished, I open the gate, he comes out to me to get a piece of dried liver, and the other two rush in to lick his bowl clean.

We are slowly getting there with the jumping thing. It’s Reuben that jumps mostly. I’m quick with lifting my knee…I don’t knee the dog, it’s just that the leg is moving when they get to it and they go to the side with it. Probably similar to turning really, but quicker than turning your whole body.

I have to be very quick to do that…they immediately mob the camera and jump on me. I don’t like dogs that jump, but I haven’t yet trained it out of them. They will probably only be here for another week or so, so I probably won’t have enought time to really train them properly. I’ll have a try.

Do you turn around on them to stop the jumping buffy?

These dogs have also learnt that my stern NO! means no. Oh, but we are so cute! NO! Cute or not, jumping is not allowed. I also brush them away with my hand.

One important thing with training the dogs is to always say their name in a friendly tone. All you are using that for is to get their attention. I used to train people in my classes to get the dog’s attention – this game was in the first class of the set. “Dog’s name!” “Look!” And when they looked (puppies are curious) they got a treat. Most dogs learnt to respond to their name very quickly. Stern tones are reserved for the word No. I’m not sure that is how they train people now though. Other commands have an definite (not stern) tone.

I am fascinated. I was thinking of getting a pets as therapy dog to assist with my PTSD. Which has gotten so múch worse since the verbal abuse and a tradie screamed two centrimetres from my face is demanding to know what the plumber had a done and why the plumber did not do their job, that he did not do his job. That he had no photos or works of scopes.

I put in a lot of complaints in and they still sent out the aggressive tradie and the one who doctored the photo removing the fence succumb to deny a claim. So another complaint and it was easy to disprove his doctored photo. He was still sent back assess the aggressive tradies very substanded work.

It is being nightmare.

I can’t sleep any more.

Two of my friends died and I did not get to see them in time..

There was no síte management.

The abusivness was shocking.

This morning I found all three Pugs piled into a pagoda on the Dog Mountain (Bruna’s beanbag inside Bruna’s basket). I didn’t have a camera with me, when I first saw them they were three high. Of course, when I went to get the camera, The Blondes came to see what I was doing. So I sat back at the computer and waited. Tully climbed up over the top of Hei Long and lay down. Reuben was not sure if he should.

In the end he decided on discretion, and just lay down on the sheepskin in front.

Hei Long has always accompanied me to the shower, hidden behind my towel while waiting for me to get out, then done his best to trip me up by wandering about around my feet while I dry myself. It’s a bit unfortunate that I now seem to have reached a higher level of “making sure the older person maintains their balance abilities” and I have to manage three Orbiting Pugs. Who are also very diligent about not being particularly helpful if I am trying to put on some jeans or track pants. We’ve just successfully done the Shower Dance – I didn’t fall over.

I must remember to tell my brother when he picks up his two that Tully answers to Chloe (their previous Pug girl) and to Dolly (Mum’s Pug girl from 20 odd years ago). Not sure why we are mixing up the names. I suppose they sound a little bit similar. But then, occasionally I called Bruna by my sister’s name (Brenda). Probably my familial dementia.

He’s got quite dense cataracts now. Glasses wouldn’t be any use to him. I used to wave my hands above my head to attract Bruna’s attention, with him I have to wave my hands low, criss crossing near my ankles, making sure he is looking in my general direction first. I feel like I have been watching too many aircraft taking off on JAG.

I’ll just revive this thread for a tick so PWM can skip my posts.

I’m a bit worried about The Pug. Since The Blondes went home, he’s been progressively becoming more of a puppy. He is running about more. He is being cheeky. He is being a busybody. He is wolfing his food. He’s taken over Bruna’s position as Company Dog when I am out in the garden. Before Bruna died he was progressively becoming an Old Man. I am concerned he might be having a last fling at life. But if he doesn’t wake up one morning, that will be fine. I’ve been asking him for three years now how long he is going to stay. Pugs generally do about 10 years. He is thirteen and a half. We tell him that he has been excellent value for money.

Uh oh… I was just thinking about Hei Long today, envisioning a post where you said he napped and didn’t wake. I’ve never had a premonition, hope this isn’t my first 🥺

LOL @ “excellent value for money”

I used to have a particular dream (which I still recall, and I don’t usually remember my dreams) when my mother in law was in the nursing home here. I don’t remember why I was telling her about my dreams, but I suppose it was part of the conversation I had with her each day on my way home from work. Anyway, on a number of occasions when she had relatively severe angina during the night, I would dream of standing on a beach, in the dunes, watching a very beautiful high wall of exquisitely clear wave coming towards me. I was not afraid in the dream, I was admiring its beauty. I am afraid of the ocean and don’t swim in it. It was a repetitive dream, didn’t change each time I had it. I think I had an echo of it after she had died on one occasion. Neither of us were into the supernatural, but we did enjoy discussing if I’d had The Dream.

(I got on very well with Carmel.)

Sounds like he’s enjoying himself more these days, and that’s the main thing :)

Carmel’s body let her down, her mind was sharp as a tack. We discussed world matters, medical matters, lots of things. She was right with it up until about half an hour before she died.

I like the idea of The Pug having a last fling.

My Poppy was an old lady and I hesitated whether I would get another dog before she went. It was the best thing that I did as she had a last happy fling watching the puppy antics and joining in sometimes. She really enjoyed her last months. It sounds like Hei Long is making the most of this part of his life and enjoying it immensely.

I thought I would never get another dog as good as Poppy but Winnie learnt well from her, she is another Bestest Girl.

I was wondering why the dog’s leg looked weird… it’s a whole other dog!

SCRUFFIES 😍😍😍😍😍😍

Gosh I love scruffy dogs

This was Jellybean last week, waiting for Mini Me to finish school. I took the pic because her normally black fur looked red in the sun.

A local artist (Peter Rush) started building large sculptures with all natural materials around the central coast during lockdown and did some amazing ones for several years after lockdown finished. He stopped for a while but he’s back again. Not the best pics as I only had my phone.

Oh being able to discuss world and medical and lots of other things would have been great. It’s a shame Carmel’s body let her down. But you visiting on your way home would have been a highlight.

Papa Bear had dementia. He still recognised us but a lot of memories were gone. He told me one day he was ready to go. I got everyone in and then he went.

I used to visit him on my way home. He loved that.

I would visit him when I went out for a walks in the the morning at 6am.

He was a character and a party animal. He talked to everyone.

I got there one day and he sent me to visit with another resident who hadn’t had visitors for awhile. So of course I went and visited with his friend who was visitorless. Then I went back to visit with him.

😂🤣😂🤣 He really was clued into how other residents were going. 😂🤣😂🤣

He was a character.

It sounds like you and Carmel really clicked and both your minds roved together.
