Subject: missing scientists

I’ve seen several different stories about ten or eleven scientists and engineers who, over the last couple of years, have gone missing, have been killed, or have been reported to have committed suicide in unusual circumstances.

There is not much linking them. Some of them were in high energy physics or cutting edge theoretical physics, others in propulsion or exoplanets…

Certainly interesting work but not particularly linked in an obvious way. Disproportionately there is a connection to NASA but not all of them had a connection to NASA.

My gut feeling is that it’s probably nothing. The USA is a big place. It wouldn’t surprise me if there were a hundred thousand people working in such fields. And it’s the USA: a lot of people generally get killed and commit suicide and go missing as a matter of course.

Have you heard of this? Got any opinions?

Conspiracy theory over UFOs and missing scientists spreads from web to White House
Claim of nefarious plot draws attention of lawmakers and president – but are disappearances and deaths really linked.

A conspiracy theory positing exactly that has roared through sections of the US population in recent weeks, spreading rapidly from the internet into rightwing media and hence into the mainstream press and prompting an inquiry from Congress and questions from Donald Trump.

Could such an outlandish theory have even an inkling of truth? Or are lawmakers, the FBI, the White House, countless substackers and podcasters, along with US media outlets, just pandering to the latest clickbait conspiracy theory in an age rife with them?

Like all good conspiracy theories, the mysterious case of the sudden flood of missing or dead US scientists is difficult to sift through. And answers to its puzzle likely lie not in the conspiracy theory itself but what it represents in an era of AI slop and social media disinformation. Especially when each morsel of conspiratorial connection creates more appetite for another and can never be satiated.

But there are a few known elements…

I love it.

You’re right.. probly random noise… or aliens

Sidney Sheldon’s novel The Doomsday Conspiracy is about this. In the author’s note at the end, he lists NASA scientists who died under mysterious circumstances because they allegedly knew something about aliens. When I first had access to the internet, I did have a bit of a look but have largely forgotten what I found.

But yes, I’m aware of the phenomenon.

I have heard about this, and the conspiracy theories. I agree with your assessment. NASA gets a lot of flerfs hot under the collar.

Isn’t this to do with the story that they worked on or had knowledge of extra terrestrial technology
Being knocked off as their job is done and they are a security risk.

I always find these theories interesting that we are in possession of highly advanced alien technology.
Its never used except for some clandestine purpose
NASA still uses primitive rockets, the military whilst having advanced aircraft and weapons have nothing no one else can’t build.
Supposedly the only time it will be seen by the public is in the case of a nuclear war, why is never explained
