Interesting.
I often wonder why the possibility of using manufactured hydrocarbon fuel, made with captured CO2, never seems to be considered.

The problem isn’t making a jet engine run on hydrogen – they’ll run on pretty much anything that’ll combust – but storing enough o it to get useful range.
The Lockheed CL400 Project Suntan determined that.

So why are Rolls-Royce messing about with it?

I’m not sure. It’ll burn a lot cleaner than even the latest conventional jet engines at least.
I have to have a bit of a laugh as well.

I’m pretty sure that’s an early model RR Avon engine from the 1950’s. They really should have tried to find an image of a more modern engine. Something like a Eurojet EJ200.

It may have been easier to convert. After all iit is ony a prototype.

It’s some impressive tech regardless
Its quite amazing some of the machines humans create
