Subject: Ta - Gratitude - I put in a complaint

Thanks folks,

I put in a complaint.

Which I wouldn’t have done without your suggestions.

I was the weird kid, then strange and awkward one. I never grew out of it.

When part of your family insanely stalks you, at times, you lose your place in forums and friendship networks.

So I appreciate folks being so kind and the push to do something.

I made the point that if a specialist trialed me on a medication and took me off a medication 10 years ago because my blood pressure became dangerously low that it was not useful to suggest that I see another similar specialist to repeat this experience with the same drug now. That I didn’t feel listened to or respected.

I felt better when I sent it.

She was inappropriate in so many ways so I focused on three key points.

And I requested a confirmation email that the Practice Manager received my email.

Good for you!

It takes courage to stand up for one’s self, because we are taught to respect authority. You’ve reclaimed your power and your agency. It feels scary, but you did it! Go you!

Next steps:

Write down everything you can remember about your appointment. Be factual. Your memory is imperfect and there are details you won’t remember later.

If you’re unhappy with the Practice Manager’s response, contact AHPRA. Again, keep details of their response. Note that AHPRA can only do certain things; those are listed on their website.
https://www.ahpra.gov.au/Notifications/Concerned-about-a-health-practitioner.aspx

This can be a long process; my incident happened in 2021. Someone contacted me via phone for more details, then sent emails about every 6 months updating me on proceedings. For a long time, the emails simply said, “We’ve requested information, and received information”.

Your case may be resolved with a phone call from AHPRA to the specialist.

You’ve got this 💪🏻

I always saw you as a fierce woman who stood up against bullshit from others. That person is still you, she’s just tired from being so strong for so long. I really identify with that level of exhaustion.
I hope you are still considering an advocate for future medical appointments. Cymek’s suggestion is worthwhile.
