There’s a perverse incentive to profit from the mania even when you know exactly what is going on. Important to remember that stock markets are not great reflections of the ‘real economy’. The GFC was so bad because it affected all sectors while the dot-com bubble just ended up with investors losing money while in the real economy we all got cheaper and better internet because of all the fool-hardy investment.
