Oddly though, there will be no spectators, due to the fires in the region. Guardian takes up the story:
The third stage of the Tour de France to Les Angles will go ahead, despite the threat posed by wildfires raging in the eastern Pyrenees, but without spectators.
“The setup will be limited to the passage of the riders only and the vehicles essential to organising the event,” Pierre Regnault de la Mothe, the prefect of the Eastern Pyrenees, said.
The Tour’s popular publicity caravan will not be on the road and one of the key access routes for the convoy to the stage finish in Les Angles has also been closed.
“The public is asked not to go near the route or to the finish area. I regret saying this but in France at least, it will be a stage of the Tour without spectators,” the prefect said.
Christian Prudhomme, the Tour director, said that the decision was taken on Sunday afternoon. “We agreed, given the exceptional and frightening conditions of the fire, to limit the road to only the riders and essential organisation vehicles. We ask the public not to come to roadside or to the finish. All of this was done in agreement with the state authorities.”
That will be very odd to watch – no crazy bastards crowing the finish line.

But it is a nice looking place, I watch it partly for the rolling scenery. One of the striking differences to over here is that every last square metre of land seems to be claimed and used. Houses and barns built right up along the side of the road with no set-backs. Over here we have lots of random bits of “bush” scattered around the place, unused and undeveloped so far.

Stage 13 and it’s the longest stage of this tour, 205km with a hefty climb towards the end.

We’ve had only one channel all evening – 10. We were able to watch Cooper and Fry on iView though. Mr buffy says some of the others are coming back. There must be TV Tower Problems somewhere.

I’ve been enjoying the French place names, coupled with my inability to read them clearly at a distance.
For a while, i was under the impression that there was a stage from Champagne Hole to Plateau de Stillsons (or ‘plain of spanners’).
Looks like a nice seaside city for this race.

It can get interestingly tense as the hot seat holders try to hang on as the faster riders enter late in the race. If you can keep watching that long…

My legs are aching just looking at it.
First breakaway came to nothing and it’s going be difficult to establish one now.
Magnificent scenery already though.
Skaarseth in an odd solo crash.
The new breakaway now 3 and a half minutes ahead.

Another Alpine trek for Stage 19, but the live stream doesn’t begin until 9:50pm.
I’ll have a few peeps at it but truth be told, I’m a bit bicycled out.
Stage 20 and the last day of proper racing, although since smug-faced Tadej Pogacar is winning everything anyway, it won’t be much of a competition.
But it’s a gruelling final Alpine stage that will probably have spectacular scenery, so I may peep into it now and then.
I don’t know if I could bear actually living in a place with such majestic mountain scenery.
I’d feel obliged to keep going out and gawping at it every few minutes which would make me a nervous wreck after a while.
Spectator hits the deck. Pushed over by the mechanic when he tried to help push the rider who’d stopped for repairs.
Kuss was leading, then crashed TWICE in quick succession.
Carapaz takes over.
Carapaz wins, and well deserved for the Condor of Ecuador.
Final stage of the Tour doesn’t start until 12:05am. And being the final stage, with an already-decided winner, it’ll likely be a traditional “vanity stage” with little if any real racing.
DSidn’t manage to stay up and watch any of it last night. But congrats to Poggo for winning another one.
Best placed Aussie was J Hindley at 15th. Not bad.

I usually miss the last stage, and did this time too. But there were some enjoyable stages and a zillion words of not-too-annoying commentary, so well done to everyone involved.
