Well, I’m in Sydney for the SGU NotACon & Skepticon. 23 – 25 July. Anyone else here for the conference?

Since the Skeptics magazine closed down I don’t keep up with what is happening. Have fun.

Thanks mate!
For this year’s conference Australian Skeptics have partnered with The Skeptics’ Guide to the Universe to bring you: Life, The Universe, and Everything! NotACon! + Skepticon’s 42nd conference!
The combined event will be held at the Sydney Masonic Centre from July 22-25.
NotACon! is not your traditional conference. You won’t be sitting through talk after talk, secretly waiting to get to the fun part.
The entire conference IS the fun part.
The SGU, with special guests George Hrab, Andrea Jones-Rooy and Brian Wecht, will entertain you with engaging segments that are meant to make you laugh, relax and forget your worries. You will also have the time to socialise and meet new people by design. It’s all about having fun while being around your smartest friends and fellow skeptics.

They reckon they’re not conning us but I’m sceptical.

In this context, it’s a relaxed style of conference built around this:

Okay, thanks. So I suppose the Skepticon is a more formal traditional associated conference.

I’ve been to three or four of them, and yes, generally lecture presentations.
It was great fun. I ran into Dr Karl, and gave him the addy for the Holiday Forum; he didn’t know it existed! He might pop in sometime and say hello.

I told him about it last year, and spoke to him on the phone while he googled it and found us.
“Wow, that’s a blast from the past!”
But he couldn’t get his name to work, something about wrong password. So he registered a new handle, and still couldn’t post anything. This was back when CB88 had the doors open.

It was a bit embarrassing that at the time that looked in, there was an argument about cyclists going on it the chat.

I got a new password for another handle that I used to have at the same time. It worked once and then never again.
