I knew that when I worked for someone else, all the crap that goes with the business is his problem while I knocked off at 5pm and got on with my own life. Working for someone else is easy. You work, they give you money. I also knew that when I borrowed enough money and bought the company… the debts, breakdowns, admin bullshit, etc was all going to be my problem.

I knew that when I worked for someone else, all the crap that goes with the business is his problem while I knocked off at 5pm and got on with my own life. Working for someone else is easy. You work, they give you money. I also knew that when I borrowed enough money and bought the company… the debts, breakdowns, admin bullshit, etc was all going to be my problem.

Baker Breakfast with my bushwandering friend this morning. There will be not Bakery Breakfasts next week as they will be closed. Other activities today will probably include housework, iNaturalist identifications, maybe some sewing and knitting.

In a recent episode of The Dr Jo Show, Australian furniture designer James Howe said that within his marriage to Dr Joanna Howe, the podcast’s host, “consent isn’t even a frickin’ thing”.

“Like for me, like, I just … I don’t do consent. We don’t do consent,” the father of five said.

James’ comments came during a broader discussion about sexual consent education and the government’s Digital Duty of Care bill, which the Howes believe amounts to “school-based indoctrination” and “brainwashing”.

Howe appeared to agree with the comments made by her husband of 17 years, and as a successful influencer among Australia’s far-right, she immediately understood the impact of James’ words.

“They’re going to clip that up online, and you’re going to sound really bad,” she said laughing.

James replied: “I don’t give a f—-. Like, I do marriage, man. Like, I don’t, I don’t do consent.”

But as it turns out, both James and Joanna Howe definitely do give a f—-. Not only about an education model that aims to reduce Australia’s appalling national rates of sexual violence, but also about our abortion laws.

Over the past 18 months, Dr Joanna Howe, a law professor at Adelaide University and a Rhodes scholar, has become one of Australia’s most recognisable, prolific, and aggressive anti-abortion activists.

Until recently, it felt as if conservative Christianity’s renaissance was something only happening in Donald Trump’s America. Mormon women are among the most popular reality TV stars, tradwives are some of the highest-paid influencers in the world, the White House is stacked with self-identifying men of God driven by implementing their ideological agendas – usually at the expense of women and minorities – and the president prefers sitting down with far-right podcasters to journalists.

This has created a conservative cultural zeitgeist that’s spread beyond the Atlantic and found an audience around the world, including here in Australia.

On her YouTube channel, Howe boasts almost 50,000 subscribers, and One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has appeared on her show multiple times. On Instagram, she has more than 150,000 followers, while James Howe has close to 200,000 – even after a sizeable drop following his comments about consent.

Howe has used her platform to attack politicians who identify as Christian but are pro-choice, and said a podcaster who spoke about her experience having a termination was “celebrating her abortion”. She described Chanel Contos – the woman behind the Teach us Consent and Fix our Feeds campaigns – as “moronic”.

She has also consistently promoted her own anti-abortion protests.

In the days before releasing the podcast episode which caused the furore earlier this month, Howe organised a protest in Sydney where NSW One Nation leader Mike Newman told the crowd his party wanted abortion “stopped”.

The next day, Newman told News24 he had misspoken, clarifying that One Nation seeks to ban “sex-selective abortion and late-term abortion” only, not abortion entirely.

One Nation’s federal deputy leader Barnaby Joyce also attended and spoke at another of Howe’s anti-abortion rallies in June.

In the lead-up to that event, Howe circulated an image on social media of what she said were two babies named Ruth and Emma, birthed on a bathroom floor after their mother had received a medical abortion and was left alone by doctors.

The image Dr Howe was circulating was almost certainly a photograph of sugar glider joeys – not human fetuses – something even she later conceded, according to reports in The Guardian.

Despite this knowledge, she continued to use the images to promote the rally and described the misinformation as “insignificant details”.

“Even if … the picture of Ruth and Emma is sugar gliders, like, does it really even f—-ing matter?” she posted on social media.

As an Oxford-educated law professor, Howe of all people should appreciate factual accuracy, particularly on a topic on which she is so vocal.

As the furore around her podcast episode began to build momentum, Howe stated that consent education was “meaningless nonsense, and it leads to more sexual assault, not less”.

In truth, global research shows consent education is effective in reducing sexual assaults, sexual harassment and unwanted pregnancies. One study conducted by UNESCO in 2017, which included Australian data, also found that consent education did not lead to an increase in sexual activity, sexual risk taking, or the spread of STIs.

Abstinence education models, on the other hand – which are popular in the United States and appear to align with Howe’s conservative Christian beliefs – are proven to be ineffective at reducing the number of sexual partners a person will have and the age at which they become sexually active. It’s worth noting that the US also has one of the highest teenage maternity rates among wealthy nations – with most reported as unintended.

When discussing the backlash to her podcast episode – which has since been removed – and growing calls for Adelaide University to fire the academic, Howe told my colleague Bronte Gossling this week, “I think that what this is really about is that I am leading a movement to end abortion in this country and that goes against the establishment view.”

That may be true. But it’s equally plausible that a lot of people are simply outraged by what James Howe said. If Joanna Howe and her supporters want to end abortion while simultaneously supporting ineffectual education models like abstinence, consent is more important than ever.

Can we assume abortion is taboo in a number of religions not because of the sanctity of life but its one less potential sheeple for said religion.
More children means less choice for the mother whom I imagine is still the primary care giver especially in conservative religion “were it’s her job”

A rare fossil find in outback Queensland has revealed a new species of prehistoric bird that lived more than 100 million years ago.

Babuschka was one of our tumour dogs. We took her to the vet because she was pooing a ribbon not a round. Vet finger up bum (Oh, I hate doing this! she said) and yes, things were closing up. Surgery was not an option. So as Buschka was quite happy otherwise, we just brought her home and had to check that she did in fact poo each day. When she had gone two days without a poo, we took her to the vet for the green dream.

Fossils confirm human ancestors first appearance

La Trobe archaeologists have described 18 new hominin fossils including a second Homo erectus skull fragment confirming the species’ first appearance was in southern Africa 2.0 million years ago – 200,000 years earlier than traditionally thought.

The fossils also include representatives of another species, P. robustus, and show that it was undergoing microevolutionary change in response to climatic pressures.

The Drimolen Main Quarry in South Africa’s ‘Cradle of Humankind’ is one of the richest deposits of human ancestors in the world, yet many of the fossils excavated between its discovery in 1992 and 2019 were unpublished and therefore unknown to science.

La Trobe archaeologists, together with colleagues from South Africa and the United States, have now described a further 18 fossils from this site and attributed them to Homo erectus and P. robustus.

In a paper published today in Annals of Human Biology, the scientists reveal they have identified the first fossil from an adult Homo erectus at Drimolen, dated 2 million years old. This is 200,000 years older than other Homo erectus adult fossils found in other parts of the world like Dmanisi in Georgia which are dated at 1.8 million years old.

“They’re going to clip that up online, and you’re going to sound really bad,” she said laughing.

James replied: “I don’t give a f—-. Like, I do marriage, man. Like, I don’t, I don’t do consent.”

But as it turns out, both James and Joanna Howe definitely do give a f—-. Not only about an education model that aims to reduce Australia’s appalling national rates of sexual violence, but also about our abortion laws.

Over the past 18 months, Dr Joanna Howe, a law professor at Adelaide University and a Rhodes scholar, has become one of Australia’s most recognisable, prolific, and aggressive anti-abortion activists.

Until recently, it felt as if conservative Christianity’s renaissance was something only happening in Donald Trump’s America. Mormon women are among the most popular reality TV stars, tradwives are some of the highest-paid influencers in the world, the White House is stacked with self-identifying men of God driven by implementing their ideological agendas – usually at the expense of women and minorities – and the president prefers sitting down with far-right podcasters to journalists.

This has created a conservative cultural zeitgeist that’s spread beyond the Atlantic and found an audience around the world, including here in Australia.

On her YouTube channel, Howe boasts almost 50,000 subscribers, and One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has appeared on her show multiple times. On Instagram, she has more than 150,000 followers, while James Howe has close to 200,000 – even after a sizeable drop following his comments about consent.

Howe has used her platform to attack politicians who identify as Christian but are pro-choice, and said a podcaster who spoke about her experience having a termination was “celebrating her abortion”. She described Chanel Contos – the woman behind the Teach us Consent and Fix our Feeds campaigns – as “moronic”.

She has also consistently promoted her own anti-abortion protests.

In the days before releasing the podcast episode which caused the furore earlier this month, Howe organised a protest in Sydney where NSW One Nation leader Mike Newman told the crowd his party wanted abortion “stopped”.

The next day, Newman told News24 he had misspoken, clarifying that One Nation seeks to ban “sex-selective abortion and late-term abortion” only, not abortion entirely.

One Nation’s federal deputy leader Barnaby Joyce also attended and spoke at another of Howe’s anti-abortion rallies in June.

In the lead-up to that event, Howe circulated an image on social media of what she said were two babies named Ruth and Emma, birthed on a bathroom floor after their mother had received a medical abortion and was left alone by doctors.

The image Dr Howe was circulating was almost certainly a photograph of sugar glider joeys – not human fetuses – something even she later conceded, according to reports in The Guardian.

Despite this knowledge, she continued to use the images to promote the rally and described the misinformation as “insignificant details”.

“Even if … the picture of Ruth and Emma is sugar gliders, like, does it really even f—-ing matter?” she posted on social media.

As an Oxford-educated law professor, Howe of all people should appreciate factual accuracy, particularly on a topic on which she is so vocal.

As the furore around her podcast episode began to build momentum, Howe stated that consent education was “meaningless nonsense, and it leads to more sexual assault, not less”.

In truth, global research shows consent education is effective in reducing sexual assaults, sexual harassment and unwanted pregnancies. One study conducted by UNESCO in 2017, which included Australian data, also found that consent education did not lead to an increase in sexual activity, sexual risk taking, or the spread of STIs.

Abstinence education models, on the other hand – which are popular in the United States and appear to align with Howe’s conservative Christian beliefs – are proven to be ineffective at reducing the number of sexual partners a person will have and the age at which they become sexually active. It’s worth noting that the US also has one of the highest teenage maternity rates among wealthy nations – with most reported as unintended.

When discussing the backlash to her podcast episode – which has since been removed – and growing calls for Adelaide University to fire the academic, Howe told my colleague Bronte Gossling this week, “I think that what this is really about is that I am leading a movement to end abortion in this country and that goes against the establishment view.”

That may be true. But it’s equally plausible that a lot of people are simply outraged by what James Howe said. If Joanna Howe and her supporters want to end abortion while simultaneously supporting ineffectual education models like abstinence, consent is more important than ever.

Can we assume abortion is taboo in a number of religions not because of the sanctity of life but its one less potential sheeple for said religion.
More children means less choice for the mother whom I imagine is still the primary care giver especially in conservative religion “were it’s her job”

In a recent episode of The Dr Jo Show, Australian furniture designer James Howe said that within his marriage to Dr Joanna Howe, the podcast’s host, “consent isn’t even a frickin’ thing”.

“Like for me, like, I just … I don’t do consent. We don’t do consent,” the father of five said.

James’ comments came during a broader discussion about sexual consent education and the government’s Digital Duty of Care bill, which the Howes believe amounts to “school-based indoctrination” and “brainwashing”.

lethal injection seems to have the highest botching record. It’s down to a number of factors (apart from the fact that all humans are not the same) but includes things like some pharmaceutical companies not allowing their products to be used for this purpose, and medical staff ethics violations means that the most qualified or those who are good at thier jobs wouldn’t administer the drugs anyway…

October 1: Lady slept off the nest all night, then an early start to the day and both eagles brought in several loads of greenery. Nestlings found a bit of scrap and 37 self-fed, 38 wanting to be fed too. Lady came home with an eel at 8:36 – followed by Dad – and started feeding them. 38 got too cheeky, trying to snatch from 37 – and got a good pecking. 37 then ate a lot and finally 38 was back for more. Both did eat well though. A really long eel meal. Lady came then to shade them on a hot day. Around 2:30 she brought a fish and fed them both again. Then they just rested on the nest. Late afternoon one eagle was seen down on River Roost. Late afternoon Dad brought a young gull -claimed by Lady. She fed 38 first then 37 stirred and moved closer to eat as well. 2 good crops at end of day.

I remember reading a while ago about a US prisoner who’d received a life sentence; he had a heart attack while in prison (including his heart stopping completely — or at least fibrillating), but was revived. He argued that he’d died, and his sentence had been completed, so he should be released. The courts decided otherwise.

Decades ago, when i briefly worked for Westpac, one of the daily reports i got was for ‘cross-bank charges’.

When someone put a non-Westpac card into a Westpac ATM, Westpac would charge that person’s bank a small amount as a ‘handling fee’ for allowing their customer to access their account through Westpac’s ATM.

All the banks did the same to every other bank, so there was money going to and from between banks for this ‘reason’ all the time. It was a constant game of give-and -take.

Back then, Westpac came out in front by a clear margin on most days. Wonder if it still goes on?

she wasn’t unalived… and didn’t come back to life… the drugs didn’t work at all because they likely screwed up the administration of them given her medical condition. However, there is a possibility that she will sustain brain damage if she crashed at any point… so that will likely affect the outcome of a sentence.

Speaking of surcharges, I awoke this morning to the radio alarm clock happily telling me that surcharges are now illegal.

In my half awake brain, I thought “Oh shit, I have to put fuel surcharges on my jobs due to the orange retard fucking up the fuel supply”.

By the time I was fully awake and on the road again, the radio told me that it was just bank charges, not fuel surcharges. Phew.

Three years ago I could run my truck at $120/hr and make a profit.

Now it’s $105/hr fuel, $68/hr driver, $10/hr depreciation, $1600/yr insurance, $10/hr maintenance & repairs, $2800/yr rego.

Somewhere I’m supposed to be making a profit so that I can eat and pay bills.

Customers are asking why my charges are so high. I tell them that voters in the US are stupid.

The solution is direct deposits via online banking to BSB and account number. We’ve been advising customers of this for years as a way to avoid surcharges. But today is a brave new world.

In recent times direct deposits have become near instantaneous depending on which bank system is used. There seem to be two main bank networks in Aus, Westpac/CBA and ANZ/NAB, with other smaller banks aligning to one or the other. Transfers within networks clear almost instantly, from one to the other can take longer. If we can get these meshed into one seamless system then so much the better,

I was being silly. It’s hurting again now that I have stripped the bed etc. Most nights I lie on my side to sleep and my right hip hates that. I’ve always had issues with my right hip. I’ve ordered a special body pillow to help me align all the bits and pieces to alleviate the pressure.

This morning I wasn’t doing that sort of stuff. I think I’ve got an attention problem. When I go out into the garden to do a particular job, I generally end up doing about three or four others on the way to the one I went out there to do. Sometimes the original plan has to be shelved “for another day”. This morning it happened inside the house! I planned to empty a shelf unit in the kitchen that has baking trays and pots and stuff on it, clean everything and put it all back again. Along the way I cleaned the laundry trough (because I went out there to get a cleaning sponge), I cleaned some of Bruna’s slime from a door frame and door (because I’ve been going to do that for some time), and I cleaned the stuff around the shelf unit. I also included washing up last night’s dishes because I needed the bench space. Anyway, it’s all cleaned and back together now. The postie has delivered a new Scientific American magazine, so I’ll go and read some of that after lunch.

Nope. I accept my mother’s issues, recognised them early in my young adult years. Worked towards being a different person to her in a few ways. But she had some great qualities, like advocacy for women and children, and getting a good education for her 6 kids etc.
Dad was a lovely man, he was universally loved by so many people. He was damaged by his experiences during WWII and having to leave his birth family, but that only showed up in his quiet and reflective manner. He raised me to be wary of people, to never use my looks to get ahead in life..to always use my brain

Evenin’ all.

Got home an hour ago but had to plow through the emails and admin bullshit.

I hope all is well in the forum, I did some miles in the truck today (pic shortly)

No customer can complain that I wasn’t there in time, considering my average speed yesterday.

Which included driving the loader to load my truck, driving it through slow traffic,and crawling slowly backwards into a swamp in order to fill it with clean fill without disappearing into aforementioned swamp.

So according to my tracking app, I averaged around 250 miles per hour in a 22 ton truck that if it wasn’t in traffic, was climbing and descending the hills.

I should give myself a pay rise, and buy a radar detector.

Ms Kingy and myself are heading to perf tomorrow, for a nephews wedding on Sunday. Not much chance for a minipud, as we have too much on our itinerary already.

I live within walking distance of said establishment. In fact I sometime go there on my weekend health walks, and buy an unpopular cola to drink on the way back home.

Good morning Holidayers. It’s 8 degrees at the back door and we’ve had lovely steady gentle rain for much of the night. My guess would be somewhere between 10mm and 20mm in the last 24 hours. We are forecast 15 degrees with rain.

Bakery Breakfast with my bushwandering friend. No walk in the Botanic Gardens though, we are fairweather walkers. Particularly as she is on a walking frame some days. I haven’t planned the rest of the day. Possibly sewing and knitting. I’m doing the shaping of the top of the first sleeve on my multicoloured jumper.
