Hi Folks….I’m making up a veg patch ‘essentials’ basket for a friends birthday and wonder what you would put in?
So far I’ve got 2 different size trowels, jiffy pellets, a few packets of seeds and a bottle each of seasol and powerfeed.
She is still in the setting up beds stage.
All suggestions are most welcome :o)

My garden is full of red worm farm worms that have been released with castings. Mind you, there is lots of manure around the fruit trees for them to eat. I would assume if there wasn’t enough food in the vegie beds they would keep moving til they found a good spot?

Don’t let anyone tell you they don’t travel to search out the nearest pile of green matter to feed on. Mine travelled several meters to get to the compost bin, and it’s loaaaaded with them. I’m taking them out (they’re under the lid and around the rim) and as fast as I do that there’s heaps more in the lid in an hour.
They’ve found the horse manured beds too..

My Father-in-law related to me how it was quite obvious that the worm farm he visited had escapees following the drainage down the slope out back. He spotted it while driving in.
My mates were prone to come and dig worms for fishing from my garden.. I had to tell them to cease and desist. Gave them a wheat bag each and said take this home, lay it on the ground and water it. you’ll get instant worms. Leave mine alone!.

Composting worms may all end up dying on some wet tiles in some cases.

Composting worms love milk. There’s powdered milk in the worm fattening mix and they flock to it.

Yup, skinny red ones. Different to the fatter, pale earthworms that were all I found prior to having a worm farm.

i would recommend the GA vegie guide downloaded off the abc web site. that thing is comprehensive – and you just need the temperate zone.

WA I assume, which means that there are restrictions. But Diggers do send some stuff to WA.

Yep they do, I used to be a member, but I have a great nursery on the way home that stocks a huge range from Eden.
