Sheesh…nobody can work 24/7!! Got to sleep sometime! But yes I have been flat stick during the day and also working Friday nights filling shelves. I’ve become obsessed with walking one of the dogs every evening when I get home (I alternate them depending on how many laps I want to do ‘cos Ella will do more than Kuges), then cook, eat, an hour or so of tele or puter then bed…insomnia nearly kicked completely due to total physical exhaustion, lol! But the more I do the more I seem to want to do. Unfortunately puter time is usually dedicated to bookkeeping and invoices
Thanks for thinking of me though, I still pop in for a quick look sometimes before bed but nobody’s ever up to say hi to at that hour.
I finally sent Collie’s seeds off so they should hopefully either have got there today or will turn up tomorrow.
My latest obsession is chicken biryani after I did a consult on Saturday for a lovely Indian family and the lady had just cooked a chicken biryani for lunch. I nearly drooled and told her it smelled divine so she invited me to lunch. I had to decline as I had to race back to catch the cats to put in their carriers for the home open, but I said I wouldn’t say no to a doggy bag. :D
Nothing like REAL Indian cooking. It was so gorgeous I asked for the recipe and made a sort of mock up tonight for dinner – missing some ingredients but similar enough to satisfy the craving until I get my hands on the real deal. Now I’m off to make crepes for dessert to use up the rest of the lemon…look after yourselves, stay healthy and happy. Will catch up soon.
Recipe please Horty.
forums are a mixed blessing and you can do without them.
nonetheless if you get a moment pop in.
good to hear from ya – and i miss your knowledgable input.

Caught me just in time! This is the recipe I was emailed…
2 cups long grained basmati rice
1 kg chicken ( I personally prefer whole chicken)
2 medium sized onion
2 medium tomatoes
handful of mint and coriander
1tbs garlic paste and 1 tsp ginger paste
1 cup yogurt
saffron (optional)
pre fried onion sold in stores (optional)
2-3 heaped tsps Biryani powder (i use Sakthi, but you can use any preferably made in India rather than Pakistan)
whole spices like bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon and cardomom
Precook rice with some salt, a few cloves, cinnamon sticks, bay leaf, cardomom. You can add some lemon jiuce and oil while cooking as this ensures the grains are seperate. Boil the saffron in some milk and add to the cooked rice. Set aside.
Finey slice the onions and fry in oil till they are really brown. Puree the onions with the yogurt. Add to the chicken together with the garlic and ginger paste and the biryani powder. This can be refrigerated for up to a day so that the chicken can be well marinated. The next day cook the chicken in its own juices till the gravy coats the meat.
In a heavy bottomed pot, layer the meat and the rice with the meat at the bottom followed by a layer of rice, then a layer of chopped tomatoes, mint, coriander and fried onion, then another layer of meat, rice then the chopped tomato etc on the top.
Place this pot in your oven at a temp of 170 deg (can be reduced to 160 after 1/2 hr)for about an hour till the flavours infuse. Serve with yogurt and cucumber raita. Enjoy.
…as to what I did tonight…I cooked the rice with lemon, oil and cinnamon sticks, while that was on I fried half an onion, added 2 sliced chicken thighs, garlic, powdered ginger, turmeric, cardomom, coriander, ground chili and chili flakes and a teensy bit of salt, then added one tomato and threw the rice in when it was done. All ready in half an hour but was a different consistency and quite different in taste to the original as i was just guessing what might be included in a biryani powder, still yummy though!
