I want to propogate some of this lovely, trouble-free shrub I have here, for when I move…sadly it does not seed after flowering, I have only ever seen one seed pod on it and in my ignorance, thought nothing of it…so I will have to take some cuttings and strike from them.

I have a hormone powder or I can use local honey.

It should be coming up to flower shortly but I was wanting some tips on what to recognise as suitable pieces that will strike. Should imagine that pieces with “heels” would be the go? What potting mix, to water or not to water, and when?

Mine has only ever been a 3 metre shrub, but I see where it can grow 25 – 35 feet…however the soil will be a stoney ridge and the frangipani there has only ever reached 2.5 metres…

What’s air layering?

basicaly make a cut behind a node, open cut slightly, pack with spagnum moss, tie off with plastic, wait until roots form, then seperate from tree and pot up, plant out when stabilised.
might be better tutes. have a look for a youtube: air layering
keep watching G.A. they demonstrate the technique from time to time

yeah but you are going to take cuttings yes? maybe do some air layering as well, see what works best, hedge your bets, some cuttings may fail, by that time your air layering might be ready to pot up

True…I thought about some brunsfelsia as well but where I’m going, the Leichhardt bean tree, a favourite of mine, does very well…no perfume of course but the cascade of blooms at this time of the year, is stunning…might put them down the back block where they were part of a remnant scrub…the HKO is basically to cut down on the road noise, there is a caravan park at the bottom of the street…also to aid with cooling the hot summer breezes coming into the yard…

I have just had a look at the shrub and it is suffering from the very dry winter…doesn’t take long does it, and the constant drying winds don’t help matters either…so now I have a sprinkler on the drip zone, the pressure is pityful so I will probably ring SunWater tomorrow and ask if they can find out why…

It’s sterile Dinetta. It’s Bauhinia blakeana.

When and where and why are you moving anyway? Why wasn’t I told?

Yes I know it’s sterile Pomolo…That’s why I said “sadly it does not seed after flowering”… and this is why I’m asking about propagating it from cuttings / aerial layering…

I talked about the planned move on TheE’s forum as that’s more private but I had that thread deleted as it no longer served a purpose…

TheE’s forum is more private? I thought there was only 6 of us who knew about this place… How small is TheE’s community?
