I’m starting this topic because I always seem to have my nickers in a knot about something lately. You can read it and contribute if and when you want or you can by-pass the whole thing. No matter to me but I am going to use it.

Todays grrrrrrrr goes to the large chain stores. I don’t know about anywhere else in Aus but ours are not pricing most of their stock anymore. I have found this means (and I don’t go into these stores very often so I may be wrong) that you have to take the item to a scanner somewhere in the store (when you find one) and scan it by yourself to find out the price.

Whereas a DVD or something isn’t that hard to have scanned, to take a kids bicycle, still in the carton and find the necessary scanner is a big pain in the behind and I can’t and won’t do it.

The whole thing sucks big time and I’m narked enough to write and complain.

There………..I feel better already.

I’m pissed off because I do not think there is proper price regulations going on in the beer market. An example, over a 2 week period I ventured into the same store here in Townsville 4 times. But because I was curious I checked the price of a well known and popular beer consumed up here by the carton.

On the first occasion it was $41 per carton, then only 4 days later it was $31 per carton. A few days after that it was back up to $38 and on my last journey in, it was 2 for $72. How can the same product using the same ingredients brewed in the same factory fluctuate in price so dramatically? This is worse then the fuel at the petrol pumps, but at least they have some influencing factors. What is the go with beer prices? Surely the whole supply and demand economics is not at play here. This is purely influenced by marketing and profit.

How can the same pallet of beer change price over a 24 hour period?

Well I’m really pissed off about the first gripe which is a lack of price tagging.

I’m also very pissed off about beer prices. Not only can the price vary up to $17 for a carton of my fave beer but also it is chilled and warmed several times before I get to buy it. I’m sure the shops that sell it cheap are selling old stock that hasn’t sold somewhere else in one of the many outlets that are controlled by the one big liquor seller.

I’m also pissed off that the more people in Australia, the less water and the higher the price, the more regulations and impositions. I’d move to where it rains more often but there is already too full of people.

Actually you know what really pisses me off, it is people.. There are just too many of them. Luckily I’m not still at school or I’d just stand in the quadrangle screaming and spinning in a circle, knocking all close to me down with my globite school case.

I must be a ‘by sight’ shopper because I like to inspect what I am buying. Daughter is an online shopper and she has this constant back and forth going on with the PO. That would drive me back to the “pissed off” thread.

I’d like to know why they are doing it. It has to be saving them some money or they wouldn’t bother. It’s obviously not to improve customer service. Possibly allows them to sack the person who used to price everything individually. Cut the wages bill? They don’t even have the price of the items on the edge of the shelves like they used to. Progress, not.

Yes what it does is free up people from changing the prices everyday on stuff they had already paid the same price for. It allows the store to spend money on the person watching you enter and leave the store. It also gets the customer carrying stuff to the counter to find out how much it costs and then paying whatever price was on the computer anyway. No prices to compare between products on the shelves.

This is why I’ve become an ebay-er, and prices. I went to look at a card of fitted sheet elastic and would have had to buy at least five cards of it for two sheets at $4 a card. Got onto ebay and bought 200 metres of the same maker for $12, post free. I fixed all my fitted sheets and the girls families, then started on the neighbours and friends sheets. Still got 100 mt left..

I’ve got enough beard to share..

It isn’t that I hate people or have a complex ..

I’m not a right wing nationalist either.

I just think there are way too many of us and as has been pointed out. Intelligent well educated people generally have zero population growth.
The bogans for want of a better name proliferate like ants and swarm all over everything. The human genome is going backwards at a rapid rate. Education cannot keep up and worse still, there isn’t enough potable water on earth for all of us.

and don’t get me started on money. It is a means of exchange yes. It buys beer or the ingredients for beer yes.

A line from a Moody Blues song always stuck in my head or perhaps the whole song did. It is a bit dated, written in 1969.

How Is It (We Are Here)
(Mike Pinder)

How is it we are here, on this path we walk,
In this world of pointless fear, filled with empty talk,
Descending from the apes as scientist-priests all think,
Will they save us in the end, we’re trembling on the brink.

Men’s mighty mine-machines digging in the ground,
Stealing rare minerals where they can be found.
Concrete caves with iron doors, bury it again,
While a starving frightened world fills the sea with grain.

Her love is like a fire burning inside,
Her love is so much higher it can’t be denied,
She sends us her glory, it’s always been there,
Her love’s all around us, it’s there for you and me to share.

Men’s mighty mine-machines digging in the ground,
Stealing rare minerals where they can be found.
Concrete caves with iron doors, bury it again,
While a starving frightened world fills the sea with grain.

Yes I’m a bit of an earthchild.

Intelligent well educated people generally have zero population growth.

It is just a simple fact. That the better educated people are, the less children they have and that in general they have zero population growth in that they only replace themselves. Uneduacated poor tend to have many children.

The solution is to make education available equally to all and spread the wealth more evenly.

Basic economics of a free market….you can charge whatever the market will pay. I expect the fluctuations relate to “specials” in the main though.

Apparently a free market is a Good Thing.

I have been containing my anger for most of the day. Today I found out that I need to have an operation on the varicose veins in my legs. Specially the left leg. Because I would a public patient it won’t come to pass for at least 4 years. Meanwhile I will be almost cripple with little ability to walk anywhere. Untreated Varicose veins have nasty side effects too including at the worst, amputation.

Trying to come to terms with it and haven’t decided what course I should follow to get early attention.

What ever happened to our free hospitals? Grrrrrrrrrr!

I’ll have to ask but my son hasn’t complained.. Mind, the revenue all comes from oil in the north sea but at least the government has its act together on what to do with the wealth.

the money has to come from somewhere, either they pay for it in taxes or the govt has other means of income – perhaps the oil?

Without the oil, they’d be reduced to trying to sell whale products illegally or attempting to overthrow the UGG boot

There………..I feel better already.

chuckle – they want you to serve yourself these days too – at least our big w is pushing that way.
my current gripe is real estate agents, lawyers and sellers who have the unbeleivable audacity to rework a contract to such a biassed degree that to sign it would rob my family and me of our wealth for now and ever after. so i’m not buying that paritcular property even tho there’s nothing wrong with it except the owner LOL.

I poached a heap of nectarines and peaches today. I have been singing the praises of our early and inexpensive stone fruit supply. Well now I’m going to take it all back. They are absolute junk. I should have known. Of the 4 lots I have bought I have had to stew 3 lots. No four is still doubtful too. I don’t know if they have been picked too green or what the problem is but they are not edible as fresh fruit.

Before they soften they start to shrivel and then they start to go bad. We have enough stewed fruit to last for weeks.

It sounds like the varieties I had. Useless. Well they’re gone now as the new grafts didn’t take and if I get any more stone fruits they will have to go out on the verge.

I keep telling you that most of the new varieties are pretty useless.

That may well be what you have been saying but it doesn’t help when I want to make a purchase. I see stone fruit, I’m attracted and I buy. Nobody says that they might be a new variety or picked too green so don’t buy them. The poor old consumer is left in the dark with crummy fruit.

Occasionally you can see a named variety on apples and oranges but never on any other fruit or vegies. An peach is a peach is a peach apparently.

I don’t buy stone fruit unless they have already started to ripen. The rock hard ones often do just what you said.

The whole point is that this lot were so early. I thought (wrongly) that we might be in for a good season. Mostly our stone fruit is lousy. And I won’t even mention apricots. Except to say that they are in the shops as well but I haven’t been tempted to buy any of those. Been caught too many times.

It just seems too stupid, all this inferior fruit. No one I know buys stone fruits from any shop. We swap other things for it with people who have nice stone fruit trees. Other cooks that I know use canned/ dried apricots.
My neighbour has an apricot tree and the fruit is gorgeous to eat and my last lot of jam was made with these. Next lot too. They don’t use the fruit so I’m allowed open slather. Another friend has a plum that I made plum sauce with, and so on.

Yeah. If you know people with good varieties, take a branch and bud it onto your seedling tree that grows from peach or nectarine, apricot seeds that you throw out. First though save the seed until late autumn early winter and soak them before sowing at that time of year. They will germinate in spring after being cold stratified.

Far out. I was pulling sprouted stone seeds out of the worm farm. I thought only ‘special’ rootstock was used?

no. Just peach seed from the canneries, in general. For plumstock we use cuttings of the wild plum. For specific almond orchards we use either nemaguard or almond hybrid but peach stock is also fine.

The farmers grow what the stupidmarkets tell them to grow. I bud many tens of thousands every year and very rarely do I find one worth keeping. When I worked for those who supply to the city garden centres, we grew good old fashioned tried and proven tasty fruit trees. I have room to grow more than enough but do not have enough water and also the bluddy fruit fly people tromp all over my yard spraying for fruit fly because new chums to this country don’t know how to respect fruit fly exclusion zones.

Some of the best fruit I have ever grown was from seedlings that popped up in the garden.

Of course the onnly problem with that is that one has to allow a lot of them to produce fruit before selecting the best trees.

Though most of the prunus group of the rosaceae ie; peach, plum, apricot, nectarine etc., will fruit within a couple of years from seed.

Generic generic generic.. Where’s the diversity of choice gone? The problem is that the consumer has generally bought by pricing rather than choice of quality and brand name.

I suppose we can always go back to mail order or email order direct from the supplier. The post office will start to make money again and the retail shops will disappear.

It’s one that chews away at me too. It’s so annoying when you find a brand that suits your purpose and all of a sudden it’s gone forever. One of my favourites is the good old Cerevite porridge. It would seem that it was bought out by Kelloggs and never returned to the shelves in any shape or form. If you can’t beat the competition you just buy them out. Bah!

That won’t help where a company has been bought out by a larger company and the said product dumped by the wayside. I could name a couple more of these instances too.

I’m a Mac user but not an iPad user.. so my comments may not be clever.. however.. The Mac usually works as well or better than most computers. The iPad may be another story, since it is really only a reader.

We had to buy ink cartriges yesterday. The place we have always used had closed down. Gone. Kaputt. We tried one of the big name stores but they only had the “genuine” cartriges that cost the earth. So we went searching for another provider. Eventually found one but what we wanted was out of stock. Buggerdammit! He said that he would re fill our empty ones. Bewdy! Raced home to get the old ones and made pacey, pacey time back to town. Refilling still cost $60 but it was an improvement on the cost of new ones I suppose.

Did some printing last night and all the colours are wrong. I have no idea how these things work or what could have gone wrong. I only know that I am $60 poorer and not happy with the printing colours.

SO THERE!!!!!!!

Refillers need to be kosher. They need to tell you the truth. Many inks are proprietary to the company thta produces them such as Epson or HP. Many cartridges have computer chips. both need to be addressed by the refiller. Take them back and complain.

Not quite true. If properly done by a conscientious refiller. The refilled cartridges should be as good as the new ones.

I always get my cartridges refilled but it’s not recommended that you do it for ever apparently, they say new ones should be bought after several refills. I bought a new printer which has cheaper cartridges, but I have discovered that this is because they hold less ink ! Not a saving at all. In fact the printer itself drives me mad, it is the paper jamming king. The paper feed is badly designed and the sheet goes in the wrong place. Then the printer screams Paper Jam!

We don’t have a good supply of outlets in our town so we are at their mercy. I will probably just have to accept that my printing is coming up brown and live with it until I can save for the real thing.

if you’re not happy take them back. Maybe one colour has become blocked and that is why your colours are coming out wrong. No reason why you should have to put up with an inferior product if they claim that it is as good as buying brand name products.

I also have a story of printer woe. About 12 months ago I went to get new ink for my printer, and they no longer made it. I had to buy a new printer because they decided to stop making ink cartridges for my perfectly fine and still functioning printer.

I bought another Epson to replace the first because I only had one or two paper jams in a number of years with my first – was pretty happy with it all round so got a nice cheap little printer/copier/scanner combo unit…and it’s black and sleek to boot! The Epson Stylus TX110 if anyone is looking at a new printer.

My name is Painmaster and I too have Printer woes.

One time in PNG, I had a perfectly good printer and when it came time to bringing it back to Australia, I prepared the printer in exactly the same way I had received it. I kept all the packaging because I knew I would be returning home. To avoid any damage or spillage from half-used inks, I removed them, just like I had received the printer void of cartridges.

Imagine my pissedoffness when I got home to Australia and plugged in the printer to discover that the machine told me that there was an ink error, and I needed to change cartridges…. yeah yeah I know. So I pressed the button to change cartridges and it failed to return the cartridge holder into the changing position. Time after time, I kept pressing the button.

I then read the instructions.

“Do not remove Ink Cartridges prior to transportation.”

I took it to an authorised repairer and they said it would be a minimum $160 just to look at it, and would likely set you back around the $350 to repair. Or you can buy this brand new one which is better then the one you currently have for $199.99

GRRRRRR!!!

BTW. We got a fefund on the colour cartridge. Store told us the cartridge was faulty. Yeah Right!! Anyway we got our money back and that was the main thing. We are on the look out for a new one now but there aren’t any available in our town. The small prices you pay for living rural.

I know you don’t want to hear it but I need to vent. Yesterday I walked under the Tamarix with a black jumper on. Big mistake. The shrub is in it’s ugly winter coat of brown and guess where all the tiny needly things went….straight into the knitted jumper. They went in and through and got woven along the threads. What a mess.! I have just spent a couple of hours trying to get rid of it all but the jumper will never be the same.

Wish I had just chucked it in the bin and tried to forget about it forever. Next time I will. If there is ever a next time.

Yes, I know. You are probably sick of my complaints but here goes anyway.

Have just returned from a quick trip for some groceries and bought a 600ml coke to drink on the way home. It cost $3.80. Now we are talking about a plactic bottle with 300mls in it. Not a 2 litre bottle. In actual fact the 2lt bottle doesn’t cost that much in the supermarket. D asked how come another price rise (they only went up a week or so ago) and they said ‘carbon tax.’ Are they kidding me? Is every little thing going to go up by that much as well. I’m not positive what the previous price was but I think it was just over $3.

I intend to do some comparisons and buy a few bottles from other places just ot have a check. Right now I am gobsmacked and choke every time I put my lips to the bottle.

I wonder if carbon tax will become an easy excuse for unwarranted price hikes.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm…
drink water. You’ll live longer.

I wonder if carbon tax will become an easy excuse for unwarranted price hikes.

I’ve found out that there is a web site to use for any profiteering that’s happening.

I was thinking, how can they justify the increase of the price of coca cola being due to the carbon tax, when it hasn’t even started yet? the coke they are selling was produced and sold pre carbon tax.

I do drink water regularly. It’s all we have at home, appart from citrus juice atm. I enjoy the odd coke. I know it’s not healthy or good for me but I like the occasional one. I also know ice cream and chocolate aren’t good for me either but I indulge in those too

My complaint was about the price hike. Maybe I’m behind the times. I am with lots of things lately.

Just how I was thinking too BG. If it’s an indication of how things are going to be we will all be living on an even tighter budget.

There was something on abc radio about this a couple days ago and there’s a number where you can report it. The carbon tax hasn’t even started yet.

yeah i suppose criminal business owners will use the carbon tax to artificially inflate prices, hope they get caught, thing is, regardless of carbon tax, stuff goes up anyway, we were told years ago that over many years the price of electricity would rise quite a bit, no surprises there.

Just waking up in the morning will be on the carbon tax hit list. I have given up my coke habit. Just the odd drink now and then.

Oh Bluegreen I have missed you guys here……. Going to start my garden up again for the spring.

We have to get our neighbours to fix their drain pipe from their roof. Our backyard is flooded again and I had to walk in ankle deep water to let the gang out. My vegie garden is under water…again…..

I found a 600ml coke priced at $3 today. That’s 80cents less than the one previously stated. I didn’t buy it either for those who are looking after my health. :) I knew that price was excessive.

Just thought I’d mention that we got a can of Coke for $2.20 this morning. That’s $1.60 less than the one that originally pi….ed me off.
