my hydrangeas are pink (neutral to alkaline soil?), a smelly vine, close up (what is it? I don’t think it is jasmine but…), the lilly pilly flowers are insignificant but plentiful and absolutely buzzing with bees

It’s Trachelospermum jasminoides. Star Jasmine. I had to look up which Jasmin it was though. Your plants are looking good. Our gladoli are finished. Almost bought a white one at the markets yesterday. We need some more colours.

it looks like a hardy, hot- weather- ready garden – good practical stuff – except for the wollemi pine which is very prestigious and growing well in its new spot (i presume you brought it with you since its not the sort of thing you find in any old garden).

yes I brought it with me :)

I bought one as soon as they were available for pre-order but had been keeping it in a pot until I moved here. The old place was not suitable for a large tree so it was kept in readiness for that country move. It is much happier in the ground. I used to know the fellow that discovered them when we were kids. His parents were bushwalking mates of my parents and there were many a family trip done together.

my mother used to grow that – she had the ability to make it look good in a flower arrangement too.

currently ms justin has half a dozen purple artichoke flowers in a vase – and i like them – dried scaly base with a purple broom on top – it looks more like a brush than a plant.

Our council/main roads put in a new cutting approach to a bridge. On one side of the cutting (about 3metres above the road) they planted 12 of these new pines. I watched them slowly lie down and die because nobody ever watered them from the time they went in. I sometimes wonder what planet these people are from.
