FROM THE MOTHER: had chest pains last night, ended up in hospital, unable to do a stress test today due to something showing on the ECG (I think that’s right). Will be in hospital for the next 48 hours to be monitored. They have her on drugs in the meantime. LOVE THE DAUGHTER

Hi guys I am home and the elf is cooking tea:)
Thank you for all the good wishes. It means so much to both of us. XOXOXO
Okay now the info.
I didn’t have a heart attack. But I did have a wake up call.
Angina (no red line so must be spelt right) in the front of my heart.
What does this mean??? I need to tweak my diet a bit more and give up my diet coke & cheese and onion chips and my much loved butter and grilled pork fat on my loin chop and chicken skin. In return I can see my grandchildren grow up and get married and have their own kids.
I came home with 8 different medications and 3 of these are for 3 day. One of them (fast acting) is then replaced with a slow working medication over a 24 hour block. Pat will give me a needle twice a day if I can’t do it. This saves a nurse coming out to do it twice a day.
So I am on 6 new medications to stop my heart becoming sicker. My cholesterol is 4 and one tablet will help to keep it this way. The heart professor who cared for me was impressed I have never even tried smoking.
I have to carry a spray with me at all times in case I get chest pains.
Well that is about all I can tell you. Until I finish the injections, I am to take it easy…. Damn that is gonna hurt…lol

Hi Lucky! Great to see you ost and hear that you’re ok!
I’m curious – why do you need a tablet to keep your cholesterol low when you already have a very healthy cholesterol reading? Unless one of the other tabs makes it go up?

Morning all. Should be a good day if you handle it right. We’re not doing anything spectacular.
I’m a bit upset because the blue Fescue, that we planted around my plinth, is dying I think. Has to be from too much water but it’s probably too late to shift them. They really set the plinth off well and I loved the look. Will rethink the whole setting if I have to go and buy new fescue. The plinth was my BD present last year and I have always wanted one and I just love the ridiculous word.
Be good. Be happy and make the most of your Wednesday.

Mine never gets much below 7, even on meds. It’s hereditary and not much I can do about it. I can bring it down a bit more with diet but it has to be such a such a strict diet that life’s no fun.
At least I know mine isn’t a heart risk.

I had mine checked years ago and it was 6.5 but the ‘good’ cholesterol was also high (I also have normal to low blood pressure and no other issues). Anyway, because the cholesterol was high, I started adding oatbran to everything and watching what I ate, tried the disgusting cholesterol lowering margerines etc. Next time I had it checked, the bad cholesterol had gone UP and the good cholesterol had gone down! One cause of cholesterol is stress and I was stressing over the cholesterol, so I decided to simply not worry about it anymore.
Had it checked a couple of weeks ago as part of a general check up. 6.5 again, but the good cholesterol is twice the usual amount (highest my doc has ever seen) so it’s cleaning out my arteries nicely thank you. I think some of us just have a naturally higher level, and as long as the good stuff is up there, then nothing to worry about. My dad’s is high too, and he is as healthy as they come – at 67 he still goes to the gym regularly and has always had a healthy diet.

I’m not convinced that high cholesterol is the problem they think it is. However I am no doctor so don’t go by what I think. My bad cholesterol is low, but so is my good so I am no better off than those with high readings it seems.

Mines at 5 consistantly but because my mother died young from a sudden heart attack my doc wanted me to take cholesterol tabs. I said no way.

nor I. People have been eating animal fats since primal man could hold a weapon or domesticate a cow. Processed foods are a modern thing and so, it would seem, is heart disease. The “low fat” fad sees people consuming more sugar as a result and that, I believe, is bad for you.

Absolutely agreed. The sugar is restricted here for everyone, eg cordial syrup is loaded so one a day only, it ends up to be 2 teasp a day ration, but the fat and oils good and bad flow freely.

I believe in ‘everything in moderation’.
Apparently though, your body can only absorb so much in one sitting, so if you are going to have sugary things in small amounts three or four times a day you are in trouble, but if you eat half a chocolate mudcake in one sitting but only do it once a month you are much better off.
I think I am saved by the fact that I hate fizzy drinks, so I don’t fall into the trap of a regular sugar intake hidden as coke/sprite. Being a tea addict has it’s benefits, LOL!

and artificial sweeteners are even worse. I too hate fizzy drinks and only have one if there is no alternative. And while we are at it, I believe that the reason fried foods seem so bad for you is because inevitably the food that is being fried is loaded with carbohydrates and you tend to eat far more than you normally would if they were not fried.

The type of cholesterol I produce to excess isn’t a heart issue but it is a pancreatitis risk. Been there once and don’t want to again, so it’s meds for me.
