there was a bit of sun this morning but has clouded over since. possible showers.
Partly cloudy. Scattered showers. Winds W/SW 25 to 35 km/h turning S 25 to 40 km/h in the late morning. Daytime maximum temperatures around 18. Dangerous surf conditions, hazardous for coastal activities such as swimming, surfing and rock fishing are expected to develop by late morning.
15 now, very windy and cold

Same. I got soaked feeding the chickens and it’s cold. I wrapped my electric blanket throw around me to thaw out.
0.4C after a low of -1C, struggling towards a top of 8-15C. 25% chance of some showers.
Because of the rain our o/n temps were pretty high. Daytime is a different story. I don’t know what the predictions are but I will dress for the worst.

someone forgot to tell PNG that it is meant to be the Dry Season – still hot and wet, but it does dry up inbetween showers and Moresby is a filthy dustbowl.
Back in Brownsville today and the weather is more than perfect. It is cooler then PNG, 13º overnight and now 22º – haven’t felt a chill in the air like this for some time now.

where i am we don’t have a plain wet and dry season, close too it, but we are having more rain into the winter where it used to be drier, the dry is now more the second half of winter into first half of spring, we are having more rain in the wetter time like it used to be ages ago, i remember a while back we’d have an afternoon shower about 4pm every day it seemed, changed now, seems it will rain when ever it likes to :)
3 seasons here today.. cold verging on frost then sunny and warm, then rain.
When it clears I might go walkabouts with my camera. I haven’t put any pics up for a while.

glorious clear blue skies here with a low of -2C, currently 7.2C.
Hmmm. That makes me think of a question.
Why do we sometimes say skies instead of sky? Am I correct here or should have I said, glorious clear blue sky? There is really only one sky, isn’t there? Should I only use the plural when referring to multiple days, like, I’ve had blue skies all week?

Wouldn’t like to be working for WA’s power network provider today..
http://www.westernpower.com.au/aboutus/mediaCentre/mediaReleases/Power_outages_-_9.30am.html
Amazingly, despite the wild weather (well, for Perth – trees uprooted and a lot of powerlines down etc) none of my friends or family seem to have been affected. Still 110,000+ homes without power across the state though, which is huge.

Apparently it was a particularly bad front – once in a decade combination of different .. something something :) It hasn’t felt extremely bad to me, but then I always seem to be really lucky! Storms always seem to go around the suburb I’m in.
We’re expecting more severe weather this afternoon (trying to time my drive home around it!) and then Tuesday night a front even worse than yesterday’s, so all those people without power will be waiting a long time, I think :(
Trying to work out whether we need to go back to the old house and tidy up the backyard a bit =/ We left it in a bit of a mess because we thought the demolition was happening really soon :(

now is not the time to be outside by the sounds of it – altho weighing down loose iron would be smart – and hopefully easy.

well that would depend on how big your trees are… I can look up from my garden and see one sky and then wander around to another part of the garden and see another sky. Ergo on those days, my skies are clear and blue. But you are right, the Sky in general would then be clear and blue.

Yep, used to it. The ski boots have come in very handy with their waterproofing and anti slip sole, and easy for me to get on with a wide velcro ankle strap. I can’t bend enough to tie my laces yet. Eldest daughter gave them to me as she didn’t think she’d need them in Qld. I was supposed to freecycle them but I’m so glad I forgot to. Beanie on my head too for venturing outside. If your head and feet are warm the rest of you is warm too.
Brilliant sunhine and clear sky/ies, it looks lovely out but one step out the door and you’re hit by frosty air.
There’s a decent frost forecast for tonight.. I’ll chuck a blanket over the silkies house later.
Mumchook had decided the bigger silkies pen was better than her little house so she moved her brood in last night.
I went out to shut their gates and again found all 14 in one very small dog kennel. It cracked me up, they were packed in like sardines to the ceiling an all heads tucked in, all you could see was one huge fluffy blob. When one moved they all wobbled in unison LOL

Gosh, he hasn’t popped in for ages, has he? Not sure off the top of my head how Collie has fared.
Looks like we got to about 13 degrees here today. But there was sunshine. Initially I went outside in a 3/4 sleeve t-shirt, light pants and a light windcheater. The windcheater came of pretty promptly. I only need to start moving to get my core temperature up. I’ll admit I didn’t actually sweat today though. Presently sitting at the computer wearing light track pants, another 3/4 sleeved t-shirt (although this one has a double thickness front on it) and a cable cardie that is mostly cotton, but with a bit of wool and angora in it. The woodfire is going in the kitchen, but I imagine the temperature in here is around 18. This is very comfortable for me.
We have a pea souper fog here, can’t see a meter in front of you. I’ll have to send the man out to find the silkies house to put the roo in his shed bed.

Good morning gardeners. We hav7 degrees (doesn’t feel cold really, but then I don’t feel the cold much), the stars are missing (so there must be cloud….or a catastrophe in the universe) and there is no wind.

better to remove damaged leaves, though they often offer protection to undamaged leaves.

this is worst damage I have had since I moved here. I have tended to leave old growth on plants to protect new growth underneath until the end of winter but I suspect those canna leaves are just going to fall off anyway so I might as well cut them back and compost them.

I haven’t had canna lilies since I rented a farmhouse which came with them.. -5˚Cwas common enough.. and I just cut the cannas back to ground level. They performed more brilliantly during the warmer months this way. The dead material shades the roots too much.

the winter solstice is this weekend.
The hemispheric long wave pattern has remained stable in recent weeks. There are six main troughs. Currently the most significant troughs are near the longitudes of South Africa, the southwest Indian Ocean, eastern Australia, New Zealand, the southeast Pacific, and the Atlantic Ocean.
Summary:
Over southern and eastern Australia the cold front events with potential to bring widespread rain are now expected about 23 June to 27 June, 29 June to 3 July, and 5 July to 9 July. Rain events originating in the tropics and moving south are possible about 10 July to 14 July, 10 July to 14 July, and 18 July to 22 July.
Over Western Australia the strongest cold fronts should occur about 23 June to 27 June, 27 June to 1 July, and 1 July to 5 July.

fairy nuff! lol!
Raining heaps here today……. Just about to put some pea and ham soup on to cook. Plus a birthday cake for Mrs. Bimbo as she turned 27 yesterday. We have Cooper for the day, as mummy is at work.

Don’t you even think of going up there with them. We know what you’re like. lol.
We have a beauty here. Minimum was mild and bearable. Day looks enticing. This I can handle.
coldest june day in 12 years. not really bad here
- i was in the hills 12 years ago and a fire ran all day for survival.
down here i lit the fire at 3.30pm.
i was wet tho’ – my rain gauge is not properly mounted but the buckets had 20mm in them.

Not going to get to over 12˚C all week.. brr.
Rain rain and more rain, it’s unrelenting. Whatever holds rainwater is overflowing again, pond, tanks, rain guage, ect. ect.
It’s needed though and I just hope it’s falling where it’s needed most.
fine and sunny at 19 now, but unfortunately only heading for a top of 21 today
another 35mm of rain brings it up to 43mm. The farmers are going to be happy :)

more rain expected and looks like it will be struggling to get above single figures for the rest of the week.
Livio has just announced that we are back to freezing conditions on the weekend. What joy!
It’s been beautiful today though. I even got to the stage where I could take my jumper off. Moths are gathering around the glass doors. A definate indication of how warm it is at present.
Full cloud cover this morning. No need to describe how the rest of the day will pan out.
Sunny again here, the roof fellas were back at first light making up time. A frost is just lifting.

It sure is. Livio has told us that what’s happening is very unusual but I’ve done a bit of archiving and it’s not that rare apparently.

It’s so nice to get it when you need it but the oopposite when it won’t go away and everything is saturated.
It’s fine and cool today. We will need a few of these to dry things out a bit.

9ºC sunny with a top of 13ºC
Brrrr! Frost this morning. Back under the blankets for me.
A much warmer awakening today. There is a nasty wind blowing but I will try to avoid it if I can. Rain is on the weather horizon according to Livio and Livio is never wrong. :)
overcast and drizzling and currently 8.3C. Might up the heater a bit.

Thought I’d add that there has been no change in the weather in the last 12 hours. Livio doesn’t recommend that tourists visit Q’ld untill next Monday. More of the same to happen till then. Ho hum!
We had a real pea souper fog this morning and about 2 degrees. I don’t know what time the fog came in, but it was like that when Mr buffy had an ambulance callout about 1.00am and still like that at 6.30am when I fed the dogs. (i went back to bed as I’m a late start today)
Now the fog has cleared, the sun is out, and all sorts of things are steaming in the garden!
:)
I have no comment. Just revise what has been said on previous days.
another 23mm of rain last night, with thunder. The grass goes squelch when you walk on it, my driveway is one big lake and the ducks are in heaven with all the worms that have come up for air.

Exactly! Where is the dry? This is our dry season but we haven’t had a sunny day since (by my countback) since about the 20th June. My Jonquils are blooming but are falling flat to the ground with the weight of the rain. Same with the Ifafa lilies. One Magnolia, also in bloom is pretty much wrecked for the same reason. I don’t really mean to be complaining because I know the time will come again when we will be praying for some rain. I’d just like to be able to get out into the garden and do stuff.
I hope your week of rain turns out to be just what you want Justin.

We have probably had about the same here. Guage is out of action ATM. The creeks and rivers are up again but no danger of problem flooding I don’t think.

Perfect day today, breezy but. The afternoons are starting to warm… Mornings this week have all been around 8-9ºC and a heavy dew. Been foggy and spooky along some parts of the river as I ride into work. But this morning’s sunrise made me wish I wasn’t a photographer and was more adept at painting. It was truly beautiful, something only an artist could do justice too.

yeah.. You know I was driving into a sunset one evening.. and I said to my daughter.. if I had my canera I could only catch that part there.. and waved my hands about..
Later that evening, I was down in the workshop fixing clocks and the mite came in, handed me a piece of paper.. she’d sketched out the froame I’d proposed.. and painted in the sunset.. she was about six at the time. It still has pride of place on the wall.roughbarked said:

Yes.. the fact didn’t dawn on me when she handed me the paper.. it was only after she had gone that I realised what she had done.. so I stuck the paper up on the wall.. that was 30 years ago-ish. I’m sure she noticed.

It still has pride of place on the wall.
how beautiful. you must have felt very proud :)

It would have been better if I’d checked my typing.. Thanks for enjoying.
Coldest morning I have experienced in Mangolia, only 5ºC and just struggling to get to 6ºC at the moment… Once the sun is up, we will warm to around 22ºC No clouds in the sky.

even with the smelling pistakes?
Yes.. the fact didn’t dawn on me when she handed me the paper.. it was only after she had gone that I realised what she had done.. so I stuck the paper up on the wall.. that was 30 years ago-ish. I’m sure she noticed.
One of those special moments.

Oh it must be cold, all of the Ducks have tucked their Bills under their wings. Rarely do they sit like that.

Only down to 8c this morning. Wonderful!

i think it was around 11 here last night, cool winds, maybe a shower or three, but, warmer weather is approaching :)
3c this morning. When will it let up? An el Nino on the way so they say. I know! I know. I’m trying to find some good news to pass on but I can’t find any.
Enjoying the cooler weather, my mins are about the same as yours but when I think of the 45C max’s coming up I enjoy every min…plus you can clean the house easier when the mins are this low…

Well you enjoy it while you can. One of the symptoms of this Q Fever is a very low body temperature. (in my case that is) Plus the loss of about 15kg in weight has made me so susceptible to the cold. I’ve been wearing gloves and socks and several layers of wooly clothes for months now and I want to unwrap and feel some warmth again.
3c again this morning. Grrrrr!

I know the feeling (of being continually wrapped up), it was like that in Armidale from February to October…sorry you’re having such a tough time of it…

It’s actually fairly prevalant here in Q’ld. Worse than in other States. People that live in dense cities have even contracted it. A passing cattle truck is all it takes. We get our fair share of those up our way.

Well I’m getting mighty sick of them too. I think I know where I want to move too as well.
We have a change happening. Much warmer. Only got down to 16 o/n. I could even say that I got hot.
Cloud is building and showers are a possibility and maybe a storm tomorrow.
At last.

I was a bit hot last night. Might be time to change over to the lighter doona. They say it is going to rain today but so far it is all happening north of me.
Not long now, Pomolo, reckon summer will be on us very shortly. The 9 o’clock breeze has happened at 8:30 pm a couple of nights now.

It tried to rain on me at an Aboriginal Mission up here on the tip of the Cape. The rain was welcomed for the work I was doing, but it was not enough for the dry red earth up here.
It reached 29c today. Starting to feel like home again.
the clods are building up here, there was lightning to the south at about 1 this morning…
Bright and sunny here, but another wet blustery cold day ahead.
It’s overcast here but the temps are good. Even got a light shower during the night. Didn’t hear it but I can see the evidence.

We have some big dark grey clods passing over but no storm is in range as yet. Waiting with baited breath.

we had been dry so i’m enjoying it – and i have a good book.
The hemispheric long wave pattern has remained stable in recent weeks. There are three main troughs. Currently the most significant troughs are near the longitudes of South Africa, Western Australia, and the southeast Pacific.
Summary:
Over southern and eastern Australia the cold front events with potential to bring widespread rain are now expected about 2 September to 6 September, 16 September to 20 September, and 23 September to 27 September. Rain events originating in the tropics and moving south are possible about 3 September to 7 September, 11 September to 15 September, and 19 September to 23 September.
Over Western Australia the strongest cold fronts should occur about 25 August to 29 August, 29 August to 2 September, and 2 September to 6 September.
the sun is out (for now) but it is still only 6.6C outside.
You reading from a weather site, trichome?
Windy, hazy skies and 33ºC here on Thursday Island. Made for a choppy ferry ride this morn.

Beautiful blue skies over Horn Island today… wind has certainly picked up this afternoon. Got up to 29.6ºC with trade winds at 30kph, gusting up to 40. Humidity was nice and dry, around 60%.
We got back to a 5c minium today. Just not fair. Some rain predicted for tomorrow. I won’t put the umbrella up just yet.

Crappy chilly minimum of 23ºC on the Ferry this morning across to Horn Island although it did feel cooler than that… but by the time the plane landed at Mer Island, the sun was well and truly up and warm and I could swear it was at least 30ºC on Masig Island this afternoon… Slight sea breeze this evening while having dinner back on Thursday made it all worthwhile.

They rarely get Cyclones up here because of the shallow water…. Most of the ‘clones past below at that Iron Range/Weipa level… and winds above are always less….

6c this moring. At this stage August has been the driest in about 20 years. Not a drop has fallen. A tinder box lying in wait.
