It’s one of life’s essentials, for those who value “quality of life” :)

But I’m assuming it’s probably also true that the body actually needs some tiny quantity of alcohol in some form or other, for this or that normal function. Am I right?

Even if it was, some is made during digestion anyway.

Hmm, so I suppose that the appreciative use of these particular chemicals can be ascribed almost soley to “higher cognition”, the human phenotype at its most purely human.

Which raises the question: what will be the role of alcohol in our transhuman destiny?

One could argue that they lead to lower cognition…

Like many drugs, a great number of people enjoy the effects of alcohol.

These effects however, are not essential for the body and a large proportion of the global population experience a high quality of life without it.

Well that’s certainly the case as things stand. Somtimes, the journey brings moments, perhaps even hours, of inspired floating and mingling with the finest notes and colours and verses the human mind has yet discovered. At other times, a coarse soporific irritability will take over fairly early in the piece.

But our transhuman future may offer us all kinds of delightfully sensitive controls over these matters.
