the feral cat that took a dozen of my chooks (the last two shaken birds taken to the sisterinlaws where they are both nicknamed lucky) also took all of my neighbours chooks. my old(16 year old) cat disappeared last week. the week before the neighbour’s 16 year old cat disappeared. should my 17 year old cat be worried?

Yeah, not a nice way to go :/ maybe offer gothmog a green dream option before the cannibal cat decides his/her fate?

Or keep kitteh inside? FTR my uncle’s cat lived to 23. She had glaucoma and saw a vet-eye-ologist for the last few years but was otherwise okay, apart from looking a bit scraggly and Grizabella-like.

yeah, as much as she is a disagreeable cat she has been inside a lot since goth disappeared. they used to live in the old studio and only hang out in the house when it was cold.but i am trying to keep my eye on her.

I had to get her script made up one day, and despite being on vet stationery, her name being Kitten P_____ and saying (feline) after her name, the pharmacist still asked me if she had a medicare or health care card…

Are you sure it’s actual cannibalism, or just being killed, possibly after being chased well away from the home range.

Also sm, aint necessarily cannibalism, but a nasty fight could be fatal to an old kitteh.

Don’t injured cats drag themselves away to die? I know Jesse did (we ended up giving him the green dream, but before that he hid somewhere dark and quiet).

My cat disappeared (presumed dead) and I never found the body. I live in suburbia. Probably about 12 years old at the time.

Yes, to my knowledge cats often hide themselves away when ill.

I remember once being in the garden of the old Mole Creek cottage, when one of my male cats nonchalantly strolled out of the house with one of the newborn kittens hanging halfway out of his mouth. And no, he wasn’t taking it out for a bit of sunshine.

My Natasha cat had just given birth when a local tom cat broke in, attacked the kittens, scared the dog who bit my brother and then caused general mayhem. One kitten was bitten through the top of her head – she died in the palm of my hand.

cats are cowards that normally attack things much smaller than themselves

Hmm, I would question that assessment. There’s nothing cowardly about hunting smaller prey when you’re pretty small yourself. And it seems the feral cat(s) in the OP have been doing away with other adult cats, as well as chooks, which are not that much smaller than cats.

And needless to add, big cats often bring down prey bigger and heavier than themselves.
