I am forced to find a replacement for my 1977 Datsun 180 B Waggon (sob)
I am looking for a manual, rear wheel drive, car or waggon, about 1500 cc without a timing belt drive for the valve gear, I would be happy to have another 180 B, sedan or waggon but they are as rare as rocking horse sh*t, and priced accordingly, the other stipulation is that it be white in colour, any helpful advice would appreciated.

PWm has a white Triton, and he’s very happy with it.

Depeds on what you call large, but a datto will fit on the tray almost…

Serial? What sort of prices? How much are you willing to spend? Replacing timing belts annoy me as well, but the cars that have them are usually modern and reliable and even with that expense would probably cheaper to run than a 1977 vintage.

most serpently. once you’ve owned a modern car you’ll never think the old ones were any good. apart from a classic point of view of course.

In Top Gear Mag, the Hamster drives old legend cars. He is usually thrilled but there is always a litany of complaints and many halo cars, when compared to modern rarely stand up. Even small 4 cylinder cars now put out more power (though not the torque) than oldish V8s

There are huge crash safety differences between old cars and new cars. Seriously, HUGE. Given how much more fragile and vulnerable we become as get older*, I would be adding good crash safety into the list of desirable attributes.

Three’s nothing wrong with rubber timing belts, just make sure they are clean, free of oil, and changed as per the service manual.

Look at a Nissan Pintara or Toyota Corona wagon. You won’t find a 1500 cc wagon these days it’ll have to be an 1800 or 2000 cc.
