Cool…
Ooops. I’d better add some content.
An article in today’s Guardian:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2012/jun/22/fake-meat-scientific-breakthroughs-research
It contains this little gem:
recent book, The Better Angels Of Our Nature (Allen Lane, £30), the Harvard psychologist Steven Pinker predicts that meat-eating may be the final frontier in what he calls the “rights revolution”: the extraordinary decline in human violence and cruelty seen in the past 300 years.
“the extraordinary decline in human violence and cruelty seen in the past 300 years”, Sir, you’ve got to be bloody joking!
I’m wondering whether Dr Julius and others of his ilk really need to be worried about ‘fake meat’.

No, if he was joking there would be funny people doing funny stuff….
The statement is very well supported by people who worry away at these things.
Here – There’s a TED talk about it and everything:
http://www.ted.com/talks/steven_pinker_on_the_myth_of_violence.html
Doesn’t address the ‘cruelty’ non-issue, obviously, but he’s got some bloody interesting things to say about violence.
Actually, Rule, I stuffed up. I wanted a discussion about ‘fake meat’ , which the article I posted to was about; and what the “this isn’t spam” was supposed to allude to.
Unfortunately I got a head of steam up. The day before I’d come across a photo of a German soldier about to shoot a young Jewish woman. The woman had her back turned and was trying to protect her young child which she was holding in her arms.
That made me post, probably quite inappropriately, that little excerpt from the article.
Ahhhh…
:nods:
Oh great – Now I’m receiving updates from my Superannuation mob titled ‘The Continuing Story in Europe’.
I don’t even need to read it to know this can’t be a good thing….
Sorry, wrong fred.
=> Chat.
Yeah, tha’d be right. Spam my spam thread, ya bastard!

somehow I’ve got Monty Python singing

Even that last method doesn’t always work.

Talking of spam, I got invaded by some security program a while back. I think it came in with a free version of Winzip, that I needed to unload the video player I had downloaded.
I was amazed at how pervasive it was. It hijacked all my browsers and the home pages thereon. It took me a while to get rid of it and even now I am not sure it is gone. AVG, I think it was.
Points for originality:

it’s not abnormal that there has been a decline in cruelty and violence.. we do, as a society, frown upon beatings and vigilante justice and now just mess with peoples heads and finances…
but speaking of spam, I wonder which generation is going to say.. ‘hey look that lunchmeat is named after the internet’

if we’ve achieved anything as citizens of the 21st century, it will be that children no longer have to suffer the horror of the spam sandwich

“Tick, 10/10 Bear.
What about windsor sausage, that was what we got as meat on our sandwiches for school, it was good too.
I wonder if you can still get it? I suppose they have Danish Salami and all the new stuff that the wogs brought in, like zuckeeni and yellow squash and eggplant and sliced meats with f’ing cheese in them, soft food I call it, Australia was explored by our four fathers on bully beef damper and billy tea, they could travel miles and miles on a good feed of that.
