OK about time we put some pics in this thread isn’t it.

I indulged myself in a couple of garden ornaments on a visit to the B shop earlier in the week. I had received a gift card for Xmas and wanted to dedicate it to “something special” so was pleased to find these. There is a rooster in the series too, but I can’t remember his name.

I haven’t yet planted out the seedlings I bought so had vbewtter get on to it! Bed still to be raked but otherwise just about ready.

Hope everyone is well again. BBL

yep…great stuff PM. you’ve got enough good pics now to make a nice coffee table PNG picture book :)
do you always shoot in aperture priority PM?….i see no experiments in time priority mode.

I got some nice waterfall shots in Time priority… I kinda use time priority for action and movement whereas I think I tend to take portraits and still lifes more often then not, so Aperture shots gets me a nice amount of light…

i just started playing with it recently. you can get interesting shots of people/etc on the move, panning to follow them. the subject ends up just a little unsharp and the background gets the whole motion blur effect. good stuff.
was just re-reading my newest book (field guide for my camera), and they recommended taking super-wide shots from unusual angles. my 18-55mm produces about 22mm at minimum on 35mm film equivalent…so not so wide. still ended up with a nice shot lying down and pointing up at a person. all interesting stuff.

Interesting stuff, will give it some thought. Just bought an 8mm fisheye and it’s a real corker for getting some odd angles, and really filling the screen with people who do not think they are in shot…. lovely gear.

one thing the book said to be careful about with wide lens…taking portrait photos from normal eye level gives them huge noses and small ears. change the angle or go back a bit so as not to make them look like clowns.
what speed is your 8mm lens?

The f-stop is 3.5 I’m pretty sure. I know what you mean about the big nose syndrome shot… take a look at my shot of one of my porters who is sitting on the grass. David’s legs look skinny and super long thanks to the angle of the shot. Yet all of those guys could walk up the mountain without raising a sweat….

yes..did see that superstretched leg photo. one last thing the field guide mentions about wide lens = careful of those straight lines, which will curve like hell…if they’re important leading lines. and also to make sure that have the level correct when straight lines are in play. have fun.

ain’t that the truth. I have found that by adding the 2x converter to the fisheye, the effect of the fisheye is eased somewhat, and there is less chance of catching your elbow or camera bag in the corner of the shot….
