I like pink grapefruit, but not the yellow ones much. My mother cuts them in half, sprinkles the top with sugar or honey and grills it.
Grapefruit does not mix well with some medications.
I prefer them sliced in half with a spoon of brown sugar. spread sugar over and use a sharp knife to stab and cut the insides without causing the halves to springleaks or spill any juice.. then eat them with a teaspoon.
I also juice them as sraight grapefruit juice and as mixed with orange and mandarin. I have four navel trees one of which is a blood orange, a wheeny grapefruit which gets loads of fruit on a small tree, a eureka lemon, tahitian lime, little thorny, ounshi and imperial mandarins. Apart from eating, most of it gets made into ice blocks for additions to summer drinks. I also have a valencia but it never did well. I could graft it onto another tree but since I live in a citrus growing area, I can get valencias from local farmers if I need to. Contrary to popular beliefs, I prefer the navel oranges for everything and orange might be needed for. Particularly in the case of juice. None of the juice factories want navels. They claim the juice is bitter. Which to my mind is rubbish. The local farmers just dump the fruit and eventually pull out a lot of trees. The big stores buy in navels from Brazil dirt cheap and don’t want the Aussie navels. or so I’m told
Getting back to grapefruit. I’ve simply peeled them and eaten them like an orange or cut the segments into cubes and mix into fruit salads.

I used to have a surplus from the neighbour’s tree – gave them to a friend who made jam.

I have a pot of it bubbling away at the moment waiting to reach setting point. Poormans oranges, but really grapefruit, they look like giant oranges.

I’m not a marmalade/jam eater, but could make it for gifts I suppose.

Give it to the CWA or teh church stall ladies.. something like tat. They’ll sell it for a good cause and you’ll not only get to feel good but you also get rid of your excess.
