Subject: Hypothetical Time and Place Travel
Suppose you had the chance to spend a week in a time and place of your choosing where would it be, you can only observe not interact.
Would you choose the past? would you choose the future? and where would you choose to spend the week?
Me I’d choose the past, I’m still thinking about when and where.
I prefer the excitment of an unfolding future, I have no desire to know what it holds, a bit like reading ahead in a book.

A week eh? I reckon if I was to go back to the Jurassic that would be good but a problem might be that you dont actually see that much walking around or of it is packed with animals it might become a bit meh, dino eating dino……again.
Can you return to the present with the knowledge?
You could also pick the future but the risk there is you could go forward and find no humans and with no clue where they all went or what happened.
Maybe witness landings at D-Day but that would just enhance with some gritty in your face reality what you knew anyway.

33 AD in Jerusalem a week after Passover would have to be a popular choice.

I might be boringly trivial go into the future spend a week collating betting type data and return and set myself up for a life of unlimited fast cars and hedonism. I am told it wont make you happy but I wouldnt mind having a crack at it.
Still thinking, lots of possibilities and lots of pitfalls, you go back to a historic event and find the dates were wrong or you are standing in the crowd and as clueless as anyone else as to what actually happened.
Where there two Ripper murders within a week, maybe follow the Ripper home and find out who they were?

I don’t know what law to adopt about that for this hypothetical, the future option is a tough one.

Problems with birth of jebus and stuff like that is that you dont know where it happened and at the time it was probably trivial so unless you were Magi you could not locate the stable anyway.
I am assuming a scenario where you dial in dates and coordinates as a start point but after that you are on your own.

Past – maybe Mauritius in the 1300s while there were still dodo around.
Maybe Australia around 60-70,000 years ago, before the arrival of aborigines, and while the megafauna were still around.

1,000 years in the future would be enough to satisfy my curiosity. Here seems as good a place as any.
Hitch ‘er up to the spire, Doc, I’ll set the details in the DeLorean.

But wouldnt it get a bit boring a week of looking at dodos walking around? I reckon after a few hours I would be going meh, ok, done the dodo what next? I am wanting bang for buck.

Id like to go a thousand years into the future, and observe their “common knowledge” (ie how we know about atoms and electrons etc now) and ocme back and be richer than a weather girl

The fishing and diving would be pretty good. As would be the nice uninhabited tropical island all to oneself, just for the joy of going around starkers for a week.

Perhaps in the evening. I have quite fair skin and sunburn easily.

That would be great, but I would want to take a teenager with me who could hack into the brains of the transport system in case anything went wrong.

Not this little black duck.
Talking of ducks, there is a pair of duck wandering around outside at the moment – grey with a brown head and black stripes down the back. They appear at the same time every year. Any idea what they are?

I took the non intereaction clause to mean you are a ghostlike influence, unseen but also cannot be eaten or going swimming or anything. Just watching. I am liking the idea of the Ripper, you have an exact date and location and can dial in the coordinates and wait. A lot of other historical stuff has uncertainty about dates and locations.
I suppose you could watch at the grassy knoll but what if all you saw was the motorcade, heard a few shots, then it heading off at speed. You would still be none the wiser. Then stuck in Dallas for a week doing what?
