Well after what was meant to be a 12 month break from gardening ended up being just over 18 months.

Today I cleaned up the asparagus area and popped a layer of sheep manure on top. I’ll be harvesting fresh spears after my little gardening apprentice goes home later today.

I took some photos of him helping us out in the garden. Garden is chokka full of weeds and we are doing an area at a time. So we don’t become too over whelmed.

Very egg-cited about being able to start the patch up again.

We do have a problem with our neighbour’s water from the roof. This will have to be fixed and we’ll have to say something again to him about it.

When he had his front fence done, the contractor cut the down pipe and so the water from their roof goes in our backyard and its flooding the veggie patch and lawn. Sometimes I am hanging washing out in and I am standing in water.

Later this week I’ll pop a bag of manure and some of my compost into the area Pat turned over today. Get it ready for the spring/summer veggies.

Woo! Very excited to hear that you are back in the garden, Lucky :) You are always very inspirational to me, reminding me not to get overwhelmed by the obstacles in my way but just to tackle a bit at a time and go from there. Don’t need to be able to do everything, just something.

Our old house got demolished last week, and we went over on the weekend to have a look and make sure they left the right trees behind etc. WOW. The block looks so big, and my 8 remaining trees look so small! Now I’m itching to get the house built so I can start again on the garden, but goodness knows when we move back in with a baby (or will it be a toddler by then??) I probably won’t have the time or energy. However.. a bit at a time :) This time around I’m also more open to getting people in to help me, whether that’s friends or professionals.

Looking forward to your gardening updates, L1 :)

good to hear Lucky :)

there are regulations about your storm water running into neighbours’ yards, so if they don’t fix it it might be worth informing the council.

Wonderful to hear. I so looked forward to your garden updates and funny chook/duck/ rabbit antics :)
The water pipe ought to be seen to asap, neighbor is obligated to fix it if he knows about it and if he doesn’t want to fix it the council will order him to.

Oops, I didn’t mean to hijack :)

Trust me, apart from the pregnancy not much has been happening! The demolition & the new house have taken sooooo much longer than what we were told to expect at the start. But having a wriggly little bump does take one’s mind off it :) 30 weeks this week.

You simply have to remind your neighbour that he should have a big insurance policy because your insurance company is going to hit him big time if there is unprecedented rainfall and his drain floods your yard.

He is liable for interfering with existing drains or watercourses. It is a simple and inexpensive fix to glue a joiner in.

our asparagus is sending up 2 – 4 spears at a time now too. yum yum. time to plant beans i reckon.
…..and spuds and prepare the land for toms. B had a six pack of heirloom tomatoes. black krim, mortgage lifter and oxheart each x2.
i got two extra plants – so 8 for $7. i’ll plant them when the heat comes and let them grow in pots for now.

the neighbour should channel his downpipe back into the roadside kerb again. it might be easy – has pat had a look?
good to hear pat is forking again….

Yes Pat has had a look and said its easy to do. Might end up being him that does it, as we want to get that area ready soon.
