One of my headlights has blown. The same headlight blew about a year or so ago- does the short time signify there’s something wrong with the headlight wiring?

The last time I went to the car shop to get a new headlight, the sales guy was so rude. He looked at my car and told me that daddy should buy me a manual transmission. Clearly planted by the military-industrial-government to mess with my head and probably sold me a dodgy headlight too.

I have heard various ( probably spurious) arguments that the left hand side of a car goes over more potholes and drain covers and makes it more likely that stuff on the left will break more often.

Having said that, I bet it was your right hand light?

Left-hand side things tend to fail more often as the potholes in the road are usually on the outside of the road so the LHS of the car gets jiggled more than the RHS.

However, I have a similar problem with one brake light on my WRX; the LH one fails every couple of years whereas the RH one, I think, is still the original from 1998. This also happens nearly without fail on pretty much every model of Commodore – take a look at them driving around and there’s a very good chance that one of the four tail lights is out.

Definitely a problem there. The bulb was changed on Thursday and worked fine on Thurs and Fri nights. Last night it was not working. Seems the connecter may be faulty :(

I’d be looking at the wiring connecting to the back of the headlight. somehow it is losing an earth occasionally. This is usally a frayed wire, loose connector or dodgy solder joint. If the socket is loose, the bulb would often as not fall out..

It apparently wasn’t loose as it took a hard tug to yank it out, but the rubber thingy holding it in place looked a bit melted so it could be a voltage thing too.

shrugs
There was also chat about “relays” and stuff. If it keeps playing up, dad will take a closer look. He suggested getting LEDs because they don’t rely on voltage or summink.

I read this post directly after your previous post in chat. Firstly I thought that you were oversharing, then I was confused about where the voltage thing was involved.

A quick check of thread titles, and then it made sense. :)

Nothing to see here, carry on…

I thought you liked the customer service at the last store you went into, maybe that’s why they charge extra.
