It would be nice if people remembered who it was that supposedly slighted them, so that when they return serve it is not aimed at everyone else. ie. If one post from one person on one forum annoys you, that does not mean that everyone on that forum is the same and should have to put up with being smeared with the same brush.
Also, it would be pertinent for some people to read what they themselves post, as they appear to be turning into just the sort of people that they supposedly dislike. It does not take much effort to make the place depressing and argumentive, just as it does not take much effort to create a friendly atmosphere for people to enjoy reading and posting on the forums.
There is an old saying. If you do not have anything nice to say, don’t say anything. There is a newer version on the net, it goes something like this.
Before you open your mouth to say something, THINK:
1) Is it True?
2) Is it Helpful?
3) Is it Interesting?
4) Is it New?
5) Is it Kind?
Now, while you don’t have to cover all five with each post, at least think about what sort of response your post is likely to get.
We have lost a lot of good posters due to the infighting and childish behaviour that goes on in both forums, and we are all the poorer because of that loss.
I am no angel, and I have posted stuff that I regretted later, as I am sure that most people have at some point. The overwhelming majority of people who read and post on these forums are not interested in reading internet arguments, they just want somewhere to chat, learn and generally enjoy being here. Our own actions determine what sort of forum we end up with.
Play nice, and treat others as you would wish to be treated. :-)
