thanks for describing me as witty ;)
Saw a few of these when I was on holidays last week. Golden Orb I think, big buggers. One had a web covering half the walking path, two short people in front of me didn’t even see it but fortuitously walked on the clear side of the path…

Might be the Giant Orb-Weaver. The one that eats sparrow-sized birds.
Bastards they are, I had to duck under hundreds of them walking home from the school bus stop…
how could you not love this face?

I agree.
You know when I think about it, I do have a phobia.. watching other people do dangerous things. I have no qualms about doing rearkably dangerous feats. Particularly if I am alone but ice skating for example and Stephen Bradbury brought it all back to me.. hate people telling me about hohw they cut themselves.. I can feel it all.

I’m still waiting for the page to load.
Oh wait, I took a photo of the information sign in the park, I’ll check what it said…
“Northern Golden Orb Weaver, Nephila pilipes”
and this one, who was either trying to get my attention or being rude…

We have quite a few Nephila. We also have silver orb-weavers.. the difference is of course about the colour of the web. many Nephila are called golden silk orb-weavers.
Of course, orb-weavers are a large group of spiders noted for the fact that they are weavers of the orb.I heard a comedian who said there are three sizes of spider:
Small, Medium, and Move House.
Finally loaded it by clicking on view all sizes. Noce photo.. yes. So too are the thumbs I can see surrounding it.

Thanks (and for the other nice comments from others as well). Mind you, it took a buttload of processing to get the colours looking that nice, I’m not that good ;)

I wouldn’t want to meet one of those.
