Cane Toads are a problem in Australia. List as many methods of controlling them and curtailing their dispersal as possible, with costings, feasibility and risks in your workings.

Extra marks will be awarded to the use of cybernetic borgs with laser beams.

Apparently we’re not allowed to say we use golf clubs.

I like to play cane toad bingo when I’m driving late at night- run over them and yell “Bingo!”

The local council drains the lagoon at the dog park every so often to get rid of cane toad tadpoles as well as mozzie larvae. As for methods to contain their dispersal, I suppose we could always nuke them from space. Bit exxy though.

I use a spade. Quick and as humane as I can be.

The trouble with trying to kill the tadpole is it’s hard for laymen to distinguish them from native frogs.

I’m told that with juveniles, toads can’t really jump like a frog can. So that’s one way to identify them.

They fly better than the adults when using a golf club.

I can send some over so you too can experience the joy of having them inside, eating the dog food and pooing everywhere.

If it’s any consolation, I had to brain damage them, then cut out their hearts still beating, and hook up the heart to a kymograph. I miss physiology labs…

they’ve been in WA for a coupla years now. Bounced past Kununarra in 2010 and have gorn on past El Questro this year. They’re trying a whole bunch of stuff (toad fences and traps and there’s Rick Shines work going on), but it’s a rather sizeable problem over a large area of remote country and with supertoads on the march.

Toad fence? First rabbits and roos and now toads get their own fence.

I believe Germans had a fence as well, to keep other Germans out.

Damn ugly horrible yukky things :(

I’m with DA and do the road bingo and try to get a personal best after every rain. Have to watch the frogs though they like to hit the road too, so if it isn’t sitting up it gets missed.

The toad tadpole is black, that’s it just black. Toads generally don’t jump a height but can climb so just keep the sides of fish ponds clear of stepping stones.

I doubt you will get them down as far as you Arts. I wouldn’t think the climate would be suitable but I never under estimate a toad.

Torresian Crows.

We have no cane toads but lots of crows. They move out from here in the mornings, working hard to clear out cane toads from the other suburbs.

It has worked with other species, periodically introduce gene modified females that only give birth to sterile young.

The Chinese put up a bit of a fence at one stage I think too.
