Subject: the thigh bone

Lots of people have asked about what ever happened to the bone found in my front yard, which had my yard designated as a crime scene until today.

The story is that it is a 100 year old aboriginal femur, forensics have handed it back to the aboriginal liasion officer and it will be reburied in my front yard in due course.

In high school, a friend dug up an entire aborigine skeleton in his suburban Adelaide backyard. They researched it and found it had been dug up somewhere in the Coorong by previous owners of the house, who then reburied it in their backyard. Don’t know why.

A daye has yet to be set for reburial but a smoking ceremony and reburial will occur in my front yard in the near future.. I will try to get photos.

It is an odd reaction to finding a skeleton.

It is good to put another item to rest off the list of things that needed to be done. It has been what, two or three years at forensics?

it does make one wonder.. •nods•

It is clear though from where it was found that it was most likely originally re-deposited by a road grader when the road used to go through my front yard.

Be aware that photos of the dead are offensive to aboriginal people (I think).

Only if they see it, IIRC. ABC puts a warning up before any program with images of an Aboriginal person who is no longer alive.

Correct.

This dead person has no name, no face, thus no living relative can connect. I’ve checked and there is nothing to worry about. I was also asked would I like to have the newspaper cover the ceremony. To which I had to answer, “Well, you ran off to the newspaper with the story of the finding of the bone so I daresay those who were interested at all may want to see closure”. Not that I really want news hounds swarming over my backyard.

Memory must be vague. I said maybe a few years but my daughter reckons at least five. Wonder why it took so long?

Was the thigh bone connected to anything?

I must admit to wondering if the Kneebones were connected with your find.
