Way quieter in here than the old forum.
(But i cant cope with the new ABC format so Ive abandoned it.)

So did I – preemptively :)
They seem to have got rid of the pest for now though. But it loads too slowly, even on my fastest (which is ADSL1).
Tonight seems quiet over there too.
This forum does a lot of Chat, but recently there have been some science threads too.
what I mean by screwed up is that I cannot view by time. All I see are topics. I can drag the topics back down but the by time part is borked. It is only the Holiday forum. The gardening forum is fine.
It’s fine here, Roughy

there’s no chat.. if I select view by time the topics fill the left hand column and the space above.. if I pull down the bar, the column is blank.. If I reload, the section I type into vanishes as the topic window fills the page. If I view by time again the header vanishes.
I scrolled down the topics until I found November chat and clicked on it and nothing loaded.

no. it just happened out of the blue.
soooo, how’s the evening?
When Perth travel agent Michelle Smith was stabbed to death in Phuket, ambulance workers shocked her grieving friends by posing for a photo with her dead body.
But scenes like these are commonplace in Thailand, a country with an extraordinarily desensitised attitude towards death and relaxed regulations when it comes to the treatment of dead bodies.
Alan Morison, an Australian journalist who lives in Phuket and runs the local news website Phuketwan, was the first Western reporter at the scene when Mrs Smith was killed in a bungled street robbery in June. He said her distraught friends looked on as the ambulance workers took a “trophy shot” with her body. “ tried to explain this process to some of her friends,” he said. “To me it simply represents the acceptance of death in Thai society … I neither condone it or reject it, simply see it as a cultural difference.”http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/2012/11/12/15/45/why-thai-ambulance-workers-take-trophy-shots
imagine what fun you could have in a hospital or a morgue or perhaps some car crash?
The pain in the bum about it all is that I have to delete all my history etc to find out if it is that, which means I have to remember all my passwords again just for the view by time on one forum?.
clearing everything only resulted in me having to re-insert passwords.. didn’t fix the lopsided page problem.
Well we’ll just talk to you in the “who screwed the forum up” thread then.
We’re talking about war in the chat thread at the moment, Wookie is about to capture Moscow.

the whole idea of invasion is flawed really unless you eventually adopt the invading countries customs and become one of them – unless you can kill the existing population to the last man.

If you like… but I doubt you comprehend.. as a thread gets bigger.. I have to wait until it loads every post before I can read the last post.. each time a new post is made.. unless view by time is working.
in the case of chat.. if I open that by srolling down and viewing older posts.. then it is like 20 minutes before I can get to see what the last post was and by that time.. many other posts have been made and I have to go through the whole process again..
Which also means that the more posts made in this thread, the less readable it becomes. I tried using cb88’s switcheroo thing in the header bar and can swap the forums from side to side but view by time only works in the gardening forum. Something is borked.

you could just try it?
OK I suppose it can’t hurt.
I’ll try deleting the bookmark or favourite if that’s what IE calls it..
By the way. This forum’s view by time now works in Safari.. So it is a Firefox issue.

there’s a few others but photobucket is not playing ball. I did take screenshots of what is happening but at least in this one you can see that view by time isn’t working and that there is no page header.

this will be my last photobucket upload..I wonder how I can get in contact with them and take down all my photos. I cannot access all the cross scripting just keeps sending me to ads for photobucket and will not let me sign up. I have to do a pile of work to sign up and if I manage one upload it always fails. t hen sends me back to the join our lovely photobucket on faster easier to read pages.. what crap.

It’s still in beta mode so there should be a way to contact them with site feedback. Lemme go look and I’ll get back to you.

Hmm, seems I am now having the same issue… it kicked me off and now won’t let me log back in.

Yep. they are a pack if arseholes.. I’ve been hacking out all their cross scripting for years but it has become a nightmare.
Roughy, more details please?

- What browser are you using
- What addresses are you having problems with?
Browser that doesn’t work with one side of either http://chrw.customer.netspace.net.au/hf/hgd.html
or
http://chrw.customer.netspace.net.au/hf/ghd.html
is Firefox 3.6.28. I cannot upgrade firefox past that point due to the fact that I’m still running OS 10.4.11 on PPC hardware.
The internet is speeding away leaving me behind.
I am accessing the holiday forum at present using Safari 4.1.3 .. the gardening side of the forum pages works well in either firefox or Safari but the Holiday forum clams up in firefox.
Photobucket is being a piece of shyte in both browsers but I am having more luck with Safari on another photobucket account.I’m probably wasting my time trying to upload to photobucket against the odds when millions are trying to upload their snaps of the eclipse.
Works fine for me here, so I suspect it is a problem with your computer.
Any reason why you haven’t/can’t upgrade your OS?
And have you tried portable apps?
http://www.freesmug.org/portableapps
The programs are fully self-contained so often circumvent some problems.

Thanks I’ll have a look at portable apps.
The problems are because • I’m on dialup(the slowest dialup) • My computer is PPC. Firefox and others have stopped upgrading software for PPC. • I’m flat broke at the moment and cannot afford a carton of milk let alone a new computer or a mobile dongle.I’d ask her but that forum is getting more difficult..
That is the schooly yard mentality of the Other Place, it is one of the reasons why I’ll have no truck with it.

How many pink circles does B.C have now?
6
They won’t be pink circles, silly. But I’m afraid I don’t know what the opposite of an elephant stamp is.
I’m supposed to be sorting old patient records……
I suppose they sort of look like squared off circles.

Hi Boris, I think you’re wonderful.
I look forward every morning to reading your posts, it just lightens up my day.
Oh before I forget could you give me some reputation points? Sebeen took a whole lot off me yesterday after I called him a prick and a Victorian.
i don’t give out my favours willy nilly pwm. when your rep is as high as mine it comes with a certain responsibility.

I’ve repeatedly pointed out that I really don’t give a shit about point scoring.. yet it does irk me that people see it as a method of analysis.
Many of the records I am sorting are for people born between 1910 and 1920. It’s rather likely they have died by now, but unless I see a death notice they stay in the file for the requisite 7 years from last contact. Well, actually, as I am a magpie, they stay there for 15 years since last contact.

well the only other way to see if someone is ok is to read their posts.

I did point out that one feature of the new forum is that if someone makes them your friend.. then you can sit in the parlor of your profile and read everything they say without needing fancy bottle washers to weed the guff out.. so.. if you want me to read your posts.. zip into my profile and offer your friendship.. otherwise.. no go mateys.

Crazy talk, you just like paper :P. I can’t wait to dump (shred) the stuff I have to keep in storage…
roughie, i really don’t care who does or doesn’t read my posts. i post them purely to answer the question and get the information onto the site. friending people so that they read my posts? hahahaha. no. as far as the little green or red reps go, it is a game. i know the posters by now and what they are like without being told.

Did I suggest that I expected any less from your grand-self?

I do like my paper records. Very convenient. Not electronically corruptible. I do the sorting myself because I pull out records of interesting cases as I go. I have put my hand up to present some cases at a conference next year. How scary can a group of about 60 optometrists be? And I have been doing this for over 30 years now, so time I gave something back in the way of experiences to the young ones.

Yes.. After a decade.. I took two tonnes of paper records of eftpos.. to be incinerated.

the real issue is. the majority of questions really aren’t worth trying to make an arse out of one’self attempting to reply. the fact that you bother to reply is possibly worth a gold star but who pays you to waste your time on this shit?
Anyway.. this thread was a call to cb88..
any verdict?Camino wasn’t any help. continually gave me 403 trying to log in..
looks like the holiday forum won’t work properly with my version of firefox, though the gardening forum does?
BTW photobucket has gone back to the old site for me and I didn’t click anything. I guess there are still bugs in beta that they’re ironing out.
