The ones containing nicotine are illegal in Australia but you can get ones in different flavours, like vanilla and chocolate. I think they were originally designed as smoking aids where you still got the nicotine hit without the toxic smoke. The non-nicotine ones are meant for people who think they look cool or something. They certainly smell a bit weird, a very distinctive smell. I forget what vapour they use.

From that article:

>The World Health Organization stated in September 2008 that no rigorous, peer-reviewed studies have been conducted showing that the electronic cigarette is a safe and effective nicotine replacement therapy. WHO does not discount the possibility that the electronic cigarette could be useful as a smoking cessation aid, but insisted that claims that electronic cigarettes can help smokers quit need to be backed up by clinical studies and toxicity analyses and operate within the proper regulatory framework.<

I’d imagine that if they’re delivering the same nicotine hit as a cigarette, they could actually make it harder to give up smoking, not easier.

I vaguely recall that it’s easier to overdose on nicotine using those things as well?

a friend of mine recently got one. he uses non-nicotine, you can get nicotine ones in aus btw and legally, and he has cut his real smoking down considerably. others that he has talked to have also either given up real smokes or cut down.

Interesting. I saw a friend use one last week and she was saying the nicotine ones were illegal. A forumer once had some trouble getting them into Australia too, but I don’t know what kind she got.

what the company does is to give you the overseas companies name where you can get nicotine liquid from. you can import 3 months supply for personal use only. it is illegal to resell nicotine products in australia. real cigarette manufacturers must be exempt.

When I gave up the fags about 30 years ago? you could buy a product called “Smokestop” it was liquid nicotine, you put a couple of drops of this under your tongue and you got an instant nicotine burst I found it very helpful for giving up the fags, you can’t buy this stuff now sadly, proly cos it really works.
