My apricots are nearly ready, the local birds seem to think so anyway…
Question: The fruit on my Anzac Peach are still small and hard but colouring up anyway. Is this normal or does it mean the fruit won’t mature properly? First crop so nothing to go by, but I expected them to stay green until full size then colour up.
Guess mode (because I can’t really remember) but I think they do colour and then continue to swell. I tell when peaches and nectarines are ready by going around sniffing. You can smell the ripe ones. I must look silly, but it works.

I do the same in the supermarket. If the fruit doesn’t have a nice ripe fruity smell I don’t buy it because it won’t have any taste either.

have those other insects you IDed passed on?
i think you’re going to miss this heat in melfrisco – is rain forecast for tomorrow?
it’s soo hot here that the two poodles are lying flat on the tiles of the bedroom corridor. it looks like a poodle shooting gallery with two down.

there is still the odd bug hanging around. Didn’t miss out on the heat, been a stinker today. 30% chance of 1-5mm tomorrow. I am not holding my breath.
38ºC and thunderstorms but no rain.
mmmmm. Just had some apricots hot off the tree. Literally, off the tree, and hot! Put some in the fridge to have cool for later.

On Xmas Day, one of the farmers brought in some home grown apricots. Fruit Fly free and fantastic they were!

:D
found Peter Pan in the vege patch again, trimming the cabbage plants a bit more. I don’t think he was in there long though. I am going to have to find a roll of wire netting and make a more sturdy fence, or some money to have him turned into lamb chops.
I don’t blame him really. that little square of green is an oasis in the middle of dry crackling grass. I never thought I would ever do this, but I am going to buy a sprinkler to water the grass! purely for fodder purposes.

They weren’t huge, but they were tasty… Oh and Cherries in South Australia are so much bigger and sweeter then the ones they send to us Qbillies!

The local birds will love you too if you do this. Can you source an electric fence? I think there’s solar powered ones now, they’re (electric fences) a bit of an outlay but last forever. Beats wire netting and star pickets for effectiveness…
