you use a mitre saw to cut the piece slightly longer than needed then use this thing to get a smooth and perfect 45. i knew a framer and recognised it.

It is for shaving wood. remove the e and change r to v from shearing..

some of the ornate frames are a wood base with a plaster molding applied. you want something that will cut both but not chip the plaster.

Yeah, I noticed that too and was trying to think of how that bit of equipment could be used in instrument making.
