First photo, plum sauce :)
I have 19 bottles and jars of it from 175 ml to 250 mls. Another load of plums about to go into the food dryer, and the last lot will be made into jam, on the next cool day.

Love the labels…is that the colour (of the sauce) that you were hoping for?

Yes it was, it’s the same red colour as my old satsuma plum sauce. I have a single small jar left.
In fact I’ve never seen a yellow plum sauce.

It’s just that Maggie Beer raves over the colour of a lot of things she’s cooking, plus the depth and richness of the colour…I think that may have really been my question…

Everything changes colour when cooking.. hence we find ways to preserve or brighten the colours.
Question please.. if most of the branches on my meyer lemon look like this, does that mean the rootstock has taken over?
It has no fruit this season because I hard runed to shape it.

Wouldn’t you be able to tell, isn’t there a kind of knobbly bit where the graft would be?

Normally yes, I can tell with all the other fruit trees, but the graft point on this one smoothed over years ago and is unseen, and from the ground it comes up with 4 main trunks.

Oh ok, well based on my limited experience, I would say you’ve hacked back to the rootstock, plus with that hard pruning you’ve shocked the tree and it’s spent this year recouping it’s energies… I had a lovely orange dwarf cark it after severe chainsawing by his lordship…the tree was OK to look at after but in spite of mulching and watering, just died.

When I had a meyer I found it would send up shoots like that from older branches. Some people reckon that they won’t fruit but I found that mine did.

Le boulder rocks. They look a lot smaller in a photo but only 3 at a time fitted on the trailer.
Some corellas that were feeding on the nature strip as I was out front with my camera. Pretty things, there were about 10 all up.
And while I was out there, a pic of my front garden wasteland. It may look green to you, but much is scorched and dying from the dry conditions.
Watering the food plants out there, pumpkins and hidden tumeric, toppled asparagus over the back and p’fruit on the fence laden with fruit, and rhubarb hidden by the fallen asparagus. Yacon is struggling.
Weeds taking over but left because they’re useful, oats and thistle, broadleaf weeds and purslane fed to chooks, and clover left to act as a living mulch for the sleeping saffron bed.
Like your rock garden. no need to water it. ;)

In Sydney I had a truckload of Sydney Basin sandstone reclaimed from a retaining wall at my parent’s place when they left my childhood home (the property was being redeveloped for town houses.) When we moved to Melbourne it got left behind as I figured that an extra truck just for some rock was a bit excessive. I didn’t know that Melbourne was not sandstone based and in hindsight I realised that I probably could have made a killing selling it, or just created a unique garden landscape (only we were renting.) It did not go wasted though as I gave it to a friend who was a landscape gardener. Figured he could put it to good use.
Here the rock is granite and I like that :)
Apart from the sandstone and conglomerate(of Devonian origin) I have brought in from local hills, the only rock naturally found in my yard is calcrete, which basically comprises my soil profile.

you wouldn’t be short on calcium then, but poor on topsoil?

It’s amazing what you can recycle. This mat of roots was in the base tray of one of the big tree philodendrons. The tray was too small and the big planter sat atop it and the roots had grown through the holes into the water. Dried out now, it’s soft as silk and makes for perfect nest material for a broody :)

She definately belongs in BG’s cuties thread.
They’re not exactly cuddly, but they are cute. Baby yabbies. Red is 2 cm and grey are barely one cm. The smallest one is only about 5 mm.
And whilst cleaning out the pond I was taking pics of the fish and the flash lit up a single silver thread.. looked up and this gorgeous web was right above my head.
Because I had the outside lights on bugs from everywhere came visiting and in no time this spidy had enough food parcles wrapped up to feed itelf for a month :)
Injuries from a yabby can be seen on the fish with white patches on it.. that’s missing scales. It’ll live, as will the black moor with the gash above it’s eye.

Hitch’s journey from Timboon to Yatala Qld by the great chook lovers relay team. (hoping I picked the right links in the new PB)
Me picking him up at the start.

Ernie passing Hitch onto Liz the next day in Melb.

Following day, from Liz to ‘Disco’ the truckie in Seymour.

Hitch’s cage. He has been fed apples and shared cafe patrons food, went for a swim on a hot day, and even had a ride in a police car. Disco said he was the best wake up alarm ever! He is currently watching the white lines pass bok boking to disco every 3 minutes and 16 seconds. They’ll cross the Qld border today.

so cute! Way to go getting the relay happening!

I harvested this many again today after I realised suddenly why I didn’t see any worm eggs in any of the farms.. they’re at capacity and have stopped breeding. Just too many in them, so I’ve relieved two farms of another six handfuls and tomorrow I’ll raid the in-ground one as well.
I’m selling them very cheap and they go like mad. $10 per thousand. Perhaps I should alert the council lol.

Speaking of the mansion.. shhh…
This plant is a berry, that much we know. But what type or variety is unknown. It’s been growing in an area next to a bluestone outbuilding pretty much undisturbed for 130 years except for the occasional tidy up. Until they mowed over it. A couple older orchard fellows aged in their 70’s saw that and uttered a few colourful words about it. They positioned a few rocks about it to save it from the blades return. It resprouted and some bits were taken and potted up to preserve it’s history. Going on what berries were eaten way back then, we’re guessing it’s a gooseberry. But we’ll find out for sure when it fruits.

Hehe yes, once asleep they’re out to it. Some better than others. I tried with a white one but it was a little lively. The one above is quite the sleepy head :)
Youngest daughter laughed, but eldest girl nearly had a fit! lol!

Some pics.
I got this beaut metal spider web clock from the tip shop for a tenner. I love it! I put a battery in it and it works. And also a large pine storage box for another tenner. I see a brooder box. The man sees tool storage. I saw it first and I paid for it! The fight is on LOL.

And a coupla pics of my patio re do..seating, market cart potting centre, seedling hothouse and my gardening tool wall made from freebie bed bases :D

Yes she does.. a photo of her and I at the same age is hard to tell who is who. Except she has better teeth and a gorgeous smile :)

She reminds me of my sister.
My crimson flowered broadbeans. I’m wondering when the bean pods will start.
And my home made comfrey ointment :)
Good work!!
Some pics from today.
A tiny turkey hiding under mumchook, two ducks trying to win me over with cute little tail wags and flappy little feet, but they can keep trying because it’s not working ;)
A little vase of flowers I grew, and some of the compost worms.
I might try that again..
P’bucket is chucking a hissy fit because I haven’t renewed my upgrade. But it’s not due until next week. Rotters.
No worries, I saw a couple of photos on pb and got the gist…
Didn’t realise baby ducks look so cute..!
You’ve got cornflowers out! I’ve put cornflower seeds amongst my corn plants, but they are nowhere near flowering yet. Looking good though.

It self seeded from last year and the shrub is so big it’s falling over, about a metre by a metre wide. I must have chopped the shrub and tossed the bits about as it’s growing far from where I planted last years.
If you squint through your eyelashes… yep!
