Vaigai dam used to be a nice place for school excursions and I remember every year my school took us on a trip and we even had NCC camps conducted there. Those were the days when the huge park and small zoo at the dam was well maintained and was fun to be there. But in the recent years the park is dry and I think there are no animals in the zoo. All the statues are either broken or in very bad shape.

Also, water from the dam wouldnt flow throughout the year. Its nice to see the dam when all the shutters are opened and watching from the water level is an amazing site. But they open water only during certain months of the year. Due to the poor maintenance of the park, Vaigai dam is no longer a popular destination for school children and for tourists. Some people who visit there thinking of the old times get seriously disappointed!
