‘ning all. :) Remeber ‘nings???

Ummm… yep. Need some help. I need to test my Skype setup before tomorrow morning. Why? Applied for a job, and they rang me this arvo, and want to do a multi-caller interview (via Skype) at 10am in the morning. The job is giving business training, which I do, however this time it’s using web conferencing/Skype to deliver the training. So I’ve had to piece together a Skype setup. And I need to test the quality. Why? I’m on a satellite net connection,……… and it had better work!

Anyone I know that has Skype on their pooter like to give me a hand?

I’m on a satellite connection as you know, and Skype will only work for chat and sms.

I’m on a satellite connection as you know, and Skype will only work for chat and sms.

But I am happy to assist as I have it installed and open right now.

I know it can be dodgy, Mr Morrie. I need to find out how dodgy. I need the work. The one day a fortnight with another RTO has fallen through. They had no takers for the course.

My Skype name is alan.wood316 I’ve never had a call on it, so don’t know what happens if someone does. All the testing works. (sound & video).

I’ve been on the new one for a couple of months. 6mbps down, 1 mbps up.

….. and the lag is down considerably…. well from ping of around 1100 to about 750.

Sounds good. As I understand it though, latency is the issue with Skype.

Woodie, I can try if you’d like. I’m on a wifi connection that sometimes can be a bit iffy.

Woodie’s video came through ok to me, but it seems that my upload speed is too slow, so my video wouldn’t go through to him. Bit I did learn that I can recieve video while just sending voice.

i wouldn’t bother trying to use skype for anything other than voice because internet speed varies too much

But it does seem like the new NBN satellite will allow video Skype.

Actually a bit the opposite here, Morrie.

Woodie could read the titles on some of my books that were on the shelf over my shoulder. He made some dig about a calculus text. I informed him that it was only for show :)

He, on the other hand, looked quite fuzzy to me.

Plus, Mr Morrie, you being on satellite as well, probably means double the lag. me——>up satellite—-… down to ground to you. then you back up to satellite then back to me.

He looked fuzzy to me too, but better than I expected. I have had much better quality using cable internet at my sister’s place, when calling France.

Woodie, I’ve just shut down the computers skype and have opened up the iPuds. If you give me a call later on I can move right next to my wifi boxywidgety and see how that goes.

Same here. Which is why I never use sms. But this has opened up a whole new world for me.
