You are cordially invited to a pud at my place, Brisbane inner south side, starting:
**
Midday, Saturday 9 March 2013, going until late.
.
- For all memberss of the SSSF Science and Pie-making Society, be they Holidayers or PSFers.
- Spockie is making pie for Dropbear – she’ll tell you more about that…
- I’ll be making dinner. Expect it to be moderately spicy.
- BYOG and/or soft drinks and some nibbles.
- I’ll have plastic containers of ice to ensure your favourite tipple is appropriately cold.
- I’ll be making some nibbles that’ll substitute for a late lunch.
- If you drink alcohol, please don’t drive away. Make alternative arrangements.
- For directions email me (sssfmv at the place of hot males).
.
Mrs V and I would like to make this a fantastic occasion, so please – all Brisbanites and others in the region, plan to make this happen.
.

What the dickens is Bombay duck?
The Bombay duck or bummalo (Harpadon nehereus, Bengali: bamaloh or loytta, Gujarati: bumla, Marathi: bombil: Bombeli, Sinhala) is, despite its name, not a duck but a lizardfish. ………………………….. The fish is often dried and salted before it is consumed, as its meat does not have a distinctive taste of its own. After drying, the odour of the fish is extremely powerful, and it is usually transported in air-tight containers

I honestly don’t know. I used to eat them in Jamaica, and they were produced there. Came in a plastic packet like lollies. The shrimps really were tiny. Three or four millimetres across the whole thing when curled up.
But yummo!
:)
If you find some, I’d be very appreciative.

Maybe I won’t be chatting to you dissidents while I’m in China…..
Amnesty International notes that China “has the largest recorded number of imprisoned journalists and cyber-dissidents in the world.” The offences of which they are accused include communicating with groups abroad, signing online petitions, and calling for reform and an end to corruption. The escalation of the government’s effort to neutralize critical online opinion comes after a series of large anti-Japanese, anti-pollution, anti-corruption protests, and ethnic riots, many of which were organized or publicized using instant messaging services, chat rooms, and text messages. The size of the Internet police is rumored at more than 30,000

Batman-lookalike who turned in suspect to police is really a take-away delivery driver
Stan Worby, 39, has been revealed as the man who delivered a suspect to a Bradford police station dressed as the Caped Crusader. Supplied
THE CAPED Crusader who turned a suspect into British police dressed as Batman has been unmasked as a Chinese take-away delivery driver.
Access all Areas. $1 for the first 28 days. Only $2.95 a week thereafter. Learn more.
The superhero has been named by Britain’s Daily Telegraph newspaper as 39 year-old Chinese take-away delivery driver Stan Worby who is a mate of the suspect Danny Frayne.
Police had been regularly contacting Mr Frayne’s family and friends in an effort to get their help in persuading him to turn himself in as there had been a warrant out for his arrest.
Mr Worby wore Batman’s traditional mask, body suit and cape and walked into the Trafalgar House police station in Bradford in the early hours of Monday 25 February with Mr Frayne. Mr Worby then turned in Mr Frayne – who faces allegations of burglary, fraud and breaching a court order- to the local police.
Football-mad Mr Worby had put on the Batman costume and travelled to Wembely stadium in London to watch Bradford City’s final cup match against Swansea.
He then got a call from his friend asking him if he could take him to the local police station where he was wanted for questioning. He picked his mate up in a minibus at 1:30am and took him to the station, after he got home from the game.
“I’d had a lot to drink and it was a great day out – I got some strange looks when I got to the cop station though. One policeman looked at me and just laughed,” he told The Telegraph.

Normally I’m into cross country hills but at present I’m requiring flat running, a slight rise is ok but I need to run for an hour. I was looking at google maps around your area and it ‘appears’ to be flat going? If it isn’t is there a place close by where I could head without getting lost.

SL, you might be able to go to the city and use the Botanic Gardens and walkways around the river, where there is little local relief.

The light rail plan one of the political parties is promising to build at the State election isn’t much more than a glorified tram. Seems they’re coming back in fashion.

The nearest railway station is Yeerongpilly, a bit over 2 km away. I know little about the Brisbane train network, though I think you may have to change trains somewhere. When I worked in the city, I took the bus.
We can give directions if you want to walk, or we could call a cab to get you to the station. Neither Mrs V nor I have any intentions of driving anywhere, after the first ale at midday. There may be teetotallers or people who have not had a drink who could drop you there. I’m unsure who that might be, but you can ask. Anyway, the fare for a short cab ride shouldn’t break the bank…

One of either DA or Mr Mutant is likely to be the designated driver. There may be others, too. Worst to worst, we have three spare thermarests, a couple of sleeping bags, some blankets and a floor. Sunday one of several of us will be able to drop you at the station.

I remember when there were no stubbies or cans of beer, it was all longnecks.
There was a big industry built around recycling longnecks, they had bottleos who freelanced collecting them, I knew a bottleo, big hairy bloke, little or no education, never saw him with shoes on but he made a good living for himself and his family from beer bottles.

Many, many thanks to all the forumites who came along and made this such an enjoyable Pud.
Special mentions:
Spockie, for the huge amount of pie she made………. ;)
DA, for braving the Rat Poison (chilli infused vodka) and throwing back a full shot.
Dropbear, for showing the way.
Those who travelled vast distances to attend.
Those who overcame the difficulties associated with attending their first Pud and just did it.
And those who came because they knew they were going to have a fantastic time, and could contribute to that.
*Overall:
great people + great conversations + great food = great fun.*
.
Thanks again.

Yeah…and I’ve asked DA to write up a report of the event. So far she’s done about a half a page. I asked for 5.
Also I sent virtual hugs to la Spock :P which were delivered.
