Couldn’t your bank tell you about that via a phone call L1?
Most big city banks do foreign exchange. The Aussie dollar’s bretty strong ATM so it’s a good time to do it. You have a choice of cash or travellers cheques but for just $100 go the cash.
Banks will do you a better deal than anywhere else.

Okay thanks Bubba……
Ask the bank about any fees, but you can use your aussie savings account card at an ATM and if it has Cirrus it shouldn’t have any fee.
the Aussie dollar is at about 96 cents to a Usa dollar so you will probably be better off depositing aussie dollars and withrawing in the USA yankie bucks. 4 cents in the dollar is better than 8-10% cash exchange fee.
Some credit Unions even have Debit cards which are like credit cards without credit. You must have your own funds in there and use it in the same fashion as a credit card. Some even have a ZERO dollar cash advance fee. I think all you need to do is buy some shares in the credit union. eg 10 or 15 dollars worth to become a member.
my lady is a Flight Attendant and this is how she gets her foreign cash. I got one also and it made it very easy to get any amount of cash in whichever country we were in. Most big name banks charge a cash advance fee of about $4-8 per transaction which can add up after a while……money better spent on food.
I usually charge for financial advice, but i am feeling generous today……a bottle of Jack Daniels will get ya off the hook LOL
Ps you’d think that since Australia and the Yanks have a strong alliance…….. shouldn’t we get mates rates on accommodation????????
Yes – debit cards are the way to go. Your bank will give you one – but you must put all your spending money in the debit account before you leave Australia. They are just like a visa card – with a pin number – and work at ATMs all over the world.
I forget the charges – but they must be cheaper than travellers cheques since everyone is using them. Leave your money in aussie dollars and the ATM will do an automatic conversion when you withdraw.
