Douglas Adams would have been 71 today. He passed away ten years ago.
I think his classic HHGTTG is dated these days but when I first read it over 30 years ago it was the funniest stuff I’d ever come across. There’s still some brilliant ideas in his work.

I tips me lid ….

I first got into his stuff by working shiftwork in 1981. There was only three of us working on night shifts, and one of them had the BBC HHGTTG tapes.

I used to catch bits and pieces of the radio play on JJ and was very intrigued.

Travelling north on holiday I picked up a copy of the first book on a stop in Taree. When we got to Noosa in sunny Qld it was pissing down rain and we got a stationary van for the night.

Then I opened the book…

I found “Resturant at the end of the Universe” first and read that, then “Hitch hikers guide” next then heard it was going to be televised and I thought that wouldn’t work but fortuneately I was wrong.
Sad that he is no longer with us.
