Hi Veg Gardener

Has it really been 12 months since the Pasha was grounded?

Somewhere in the ABC news online, about 3 weeks ago, there was an article about how they worked out what went wrong…the captain of the ship was exhausted and the local ship controllers didn’t give out sufficient information to enable him to make the best decision…

Don’t think they’ll be letting it happen again in a hurry…

most probly will, but there is still a 99% chance that it could happen, it could be a different ship that has the same people on it, also there is the same weather conditons in the area could be a little better or worths.

I’d say there is a heck of a lot less chance that 99%. There is also a chance that the sun won’t rise tomorrow but I don’t think it’s worth worrying about.

Sorry Pomolo, but did the Goodies win this one? I know the Falklands were a British Territory before and after the War but with Argentina being the nearest major landmass, would it have been a tragedy if the Argentines took control of that group of tiny Islands? I mean the British have let rocks like Hong Kong go back to what geographically looks like its closest neighbour…

Hey vegie,

are you saying ‘most probably will happen = 1%’ because I think that is not accurate :-)

Last year when the floods happened there were a few things that are different to now. Most importantly newie and surrounds were still in drought so that all the water coming down wasn’t absorbed into the ground but ran off. 12 months later the ground is better prepared for any rain (which is good).

The other things was the speed with which the water came down. There was so much and so quick and this also effects the ability of the ground to take up the water (and the ability of the creeks to manage the water).

Given that such a disaster has not happened before in the last 20 odd years, I think it’s not likely to be repeated this weekend.

And as for the Pasha being re-grounded. Even if that did happen again, it’s a problem for the owners, not you. Nothing bad will happen to you if the Pasha re-grounds.

Anyway, I really hope the bloody rain stops. I am not going to get drowned but I might get overwhelmingly cranky with the mud the dogs and I are walking into the house.

the house I grew up in had a creek running down the side of the property. It would flood sometimes and it was pretty exciting watching to see how high it would get. Sometimes it would go over the road and cars would get stuck in the middle of the water not realising how deep it was. The house was safe though as it was on high ground.

Two of my children have been in the Qld SES (State Emergency Service) as Cadets…they loved it… one has moved on, but the other is still here…It’s wonderful what they teach them…first aid, water safety, fire extinguishing, …my gratitude to those committed adults in the community who take the time out to teach the Cadets…

When the floods were on, the Cadets didn’t do much but they were taken around if they wanted, to see what was being done…

Once when the creek flooded out the front of the homestead when i was a kid…. we had frogs everywhere before the creek came down….it was dark and we could here the water roaring as it got closer.

Next morning the creek was chokka and calm….

exciting times then.
our hills property had a big creek flowing right through the middle of it. in the morning we would wake up and have boat races down the creek using table tennis balls as boats.
i hope all goes well for you and the rivers soon subside – fingers crossed.

Veg..as long as you are safe and your family are safe it matter’s not what happen’s , this country will flood and it will go into drough then flood again. Those thing’s can devestate a community, but thing’s can be re built and garden’s started again. As long as you have your life and your loved one’s, nothing else matter’s. It’s not worth making yourself sick over.

I know there is a lot not to like about floods but as there is very little you can do it’s really not worth getting all stressed about.

It’s good that you listen to the radio and are ready to respond if you need to. But by making your self sick, you are not helping your self or your chooks or anyone.

Ways of not making your self sick when stressed is for another night, as I need to sleep now.

Hopefully a dry day coming up (not likely looking at the forecast though)
