Who’s been a busy rover then?

>NASA Mars rover Curiosity has been trekking across the Red Planet since August. Now, you can see almost the entirety of the rover’s mission in just over a minute. Karl Sanford of Grand Rapids, Michigan, compiled NASA’s image to create a time-lapse clip that shows Curiosity’s activities as it collects samples for its onboard laboratory.

That was Spirit, one of the earlier rovers.

Very nice video.

I’m a bit concerned about how little the MSL Curiosity rover has done since February. For instance, it travelled further in the first 55 sols (1 Oct 2012) than in the 235 or so sols since then. In February there was a serious fault in the first computer necessitating a switch over to the second. The only real science news I’ve seen since then is that Curiosity is “going to drill a second hole”. Big deal. Oh yes, and a month or so back it spotted some hydrogen in veins in the local rock suggesting the likely presence of hydrated minerals.

There was a good mosaic image released of Mt Sharp on 15th Mar 2013.
2 MB jpg at 14576*2018 pixels, accessible from http://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/catalog/PIA16768

That’s a bit smaller than an earlier panorama of 29000*7000 pixels, but that was a wider and deeper field of view so the resolution would be similar.

That photo was taken Sept. 28, 2012, according to http://www.foxnews.com/science/2013/05/29/mars-rat-spied-by-nasa-curiosity-rover/
