Yes we got a good ole drop here too. I was, at midnight, fixing the pipe inlet to the ibc water tank. The in trickle was missing the opening and running down the side of the tank. All fixed.

Raining here again but I got the washing almost dry.
I experienced that rain twice yesterday. At work in Hamilton late morning, bright lightning, loud thunder, heavy drops. Then we drove to Melbourne just after 6.00pm and drove into it again!
Not complaining, although some of the driving was difficult for Mr buffy.
rain and clouds all gone – clear blue skies and 10.3C
Sandown races abandoned yesterday…so quiet at the locals here that I nearly brought out my knitting…splendid day for local racing, more people should come and enjoy the day out, even if they don’t punt…

It’s warm here, a minimum of 12 predicted…
the 95K litre RW tank is 90% full so we must have got 150mm since it started raining.
winter is here and so is mowing.
one good thing is the ease of forking the ground right now.
the farmer who dry-sowed his crop must be overjoyed but my neighbour across the road is still trying to spray and plant before the ground is too wet and slippery for the planter.
we have grey skies and drizzle again. Supposed to last until next Tuesday. One of the towns 2 hours from us is having a weekend of open gardens. We have planned to go but the rain and misurable conditions might put us off yet.
Big brother is coming to stay for the w/e because he has an orchid show to judge in our regional town. I wish I was an orchid enthusiast but I aint. I understand they are beautiful when they are in flower but for the rest of the year they are boring. My opinion only, obviously.

miserable even.
14C, muggy with humidity of 96%…Wednesday was a Scotch mist to start with, just swirling through the house if I left the back door open…
currently 1.2C with a top of 14C. Morning fog (gone now) then mostly sunny.
Awesome frost outside this morning. Currently -0.3C.

It was supposed to rain today…har har har har…the clods are becoming more and more flooffy…(as TheE would say)…the days are warm, tho’…went up to 27C today…. I do not want it to rain until 5 pip emma on Saturday…there being local races in the offing…
Only went down to 18C last night, almost a heat wave for this time of the year…we also received between 5 – 10 points of rain but the Aerodrome says 4…bit patchy I’d say…
Going to reach 26C today, I believe…
We have some ‘sort of’ sunshine. I’ve put the washing out an it can hang there till whenever.

Yes still here :) not needing a boat as such but some very welcome heavy rain is soaking in well. More rain to come. Flood warnings ongoing for the wider area.
The only annoyed ones are the chooks, some evil looks coming from ‘em, they don’t like being cooped up but if I let them out they will all end up on the patio and back step. One of Lin Lin’s little chicks hopped over the fence into the vege bed but hid well under a capsicum bush. I expected to have to bring it in and dry it off but it was dry.
Emptying the little tank was a good idea. It’s overflowed again.
Trying to catch up ….
up to 30mm of soaking rain now :)

About time!!
Minimum of 9C this morning, nice to feel cool again……..
the sun is high in the sky and things are looking less wet today. Strange winter weather because we had a plaque of flying somethings all over the glass doore last night. Even a huge hawk moth that had just hatched clung onto the screen wire. These things are for summer not winter.

Struggling to make the 21C max today, I think…Sunday morning will be a change with a min of 3C expected…!
even though it has not rained today as yet, it is overcast and gloomy outside.
Gonna be 2C min tomorrer… cool day at the races…thankfullly…errrr. maybe I should just go to bed… 2 bottels of wine later…

It’s been raining here most of the day.
the rainwater tank overflowed!
it was disappointing really because we had imagined a torrent projecting out of the overflow under pressure.
instead it just trickled out in a little, quiet, unimpressive stream.

Raining here. All my weather reports seem to be for rain and more rain. Mould is starting to grow everywhere but it shows up mostly on the cream paint of the verandah. That’s outside. Not mentioning the inside. Yuk! Slime has returned to the driveway and the paths. Now that the Gerni has packed it in I guess it will be a hose and stiff broom job
Went and nicked a couple of buckets of river sand to toss onto the squishy parts of the lawn. You take your life in your hands when you venture on some parts.
On the other hand the wildlife think the weather is great and they are getting ready for an early spring. Flying around with bits of twig and fluff and stuff in their beaks. Even the frogs are croaking in anticipation.
Most plants are loving it too. Grevellias are all flowering beautifully.

Sounds scarey, the slime and moss etc.
Dry as here, flooffy clods and I don’t know why the BOM says “chance of shower” when we all know the wind’s not blowing from the right direction.

yep – its the first time the tank has overflowed and I was wondering if it ever would. it’s about 4 years old.
it was flowing out at about two thirds its capacity today – the overflow pipe is 150mm diam.
i’m closing their door at night and they do have the alsynite covered house – which is like a hothouse.
4C tonight and 11C max tomorrow,

It’s slippery on the clay here.
Its a good time for planting tho’ because of the zero evaporation and the rain . My transplanted strawbs, gums, bannanas, salvias, and leeks look good and Ms J’s monsterios(sp?), sticky hopbushes, succulents and others have all taken without a hitch. Do that in summer and the losses can be high.
Driving through the city all the parklands are looking lush where they were looking stricken and dying last summer.
We have some sunshine. Not convinced though. BoM says rain again tomorrow.
I understand it’s freezing down south and we are off to Adelaide for a few days next week. Please don’t feel you have to turn the cold on just for us.
Good morning Gardeners. We have two degrees in South West Victoria. There is a little wan sunshine at the moment. I’ll head to Warrnambool shortly to take Long to Grade 1 obedience class. He doesn’t do too badly for a dog who is only really getting “Incidental Training”. Not much formal time spent on it, just very short stints at odd times. But he is quite defiant on the “Down” command and won’t do it.

Morning, I’m catching up.
I’ve been sewing, making yoghurt and reading. Reading material mainly all things gardening, berries and how they came out, new crosses with raspberries and the like. And things dirt and fungi and worms, relationships between those, and minerals and nutrient uptake by plants. Ect.
The 6 litres of organic milk was given to me close to use by and the giver wasn’t going to be able to use it in time. So in the crockpot it went. One lot will be strawberry, another passionfruit and the last honey and vanilla. Then I’ll share it with the milk giver. Sharing my no waste policy too and how it’s done.
Max is all good, no further sign of ear infections, he’s happy and bouncy. Thank goodness.
But someone gave him salami, or something yuk to eat that gave him a crook gut and oh my stars, the deathly farts saw us opening the house to the freezing air choking for fresh breath. He’ll get some yoghurt too.
Wrong thread, but yeah it’s still winter anyway ;)

Yes, organic yoghurt :)
Strawberries from my garden, vac sealed and frozen, last bag, my passionfruit I found on the ground under the front garden vine, the honey vanilla one flavoured with my home made vanilla paste and honey from a friends hive. And a dollop of organic yoghurt culture.
I can’t wait.

Hello Gardeners. I’m going to go and sit on the bed with a few dogs shortly and read some ophthalmology journals. I went to Warrnambool this morning to get my headlight fixed. They did it straight away for me and I was home again just after 9.00am. So then I moved 10 or 12 barrowloads of firewood and stacked it, and somehow managed to start the mower and mow for a couple of hours. I think the resistance training and aerobic stuff is covered for a couple of days.
Well it’s not raining (yet) but there isn’t any sunshine either. Figures.
Just started to gently rain here. I did the mowing at the right time, even if I didn’t do all of it. The washing machine has just started to ping at me. I think I’ll hang the stuff out anyway, it will just get another rinse and be nice and fresh.
(Well, I nearly convinced myself, did I convince you?)

I think like that, too…altho’ there’s a lot to be said for high set houses…
the forecast minimums are still dropping, the Max’s not so much…
We had an inch of rain yesterday. We didn’t need it but I’m scared to say so because we’ll be screaming for it sometime in the future I bet.
A cool southerly is blowing now. The big freeze sets in overnight.
Going to get up to 25C today, supposedly…‘twas quite warm at 6C minimum at 06:00 hrs …
Thongs, T-shirts and shorts just strolled by…
some really beautiful days here of late.
both of us have been out weeding so hard we built a compost heap that’s a personal best.
we’ll have a fire tonight as the cold front moves in and we need to dry the clothes that went on the line late.
more rain today the ground is saturated and we are seeing water flow across the ground in a way I’ve haven’t seen in my ten years here. I have to do minor trenching soon to ensure the runoff does not wash against the rainwater tank.
both valleys – to the north and south – are presenting views of mist laden low clouds and the approaching rain blanks out all the views as it arrives.
the poor little chookies huddle together on the perch in a henhouse that was built for 3 times their number.
8pm 24ºC. Cool night ahead with the weather planned to get to 23ºC.
Very pleasant really. The breeze is stiff but accepted.
Need some rain though.

Warmer then Queensland. Was down south last week and the nights in Cairns got down to 15ºC. I had long pants on and my wind-stopper vest. Bloody cold down that way.
It’s really windy today. Not sure how keen I am to get out amongst it. :(
We had wind gusts of 61 kph last night and 41 kph at the moment according to Weatherzone.
Ah well I suppose it is August.

Missed out on all that wild weather here. Lovely sunny day here. Sadly I’ll be watering as there wasn’t any precipitation overnight.
Got down to 0.1C at 07:00 today…thought it was a bit chili…back up to 4.5C by 07:30 but there is a nippy south easterly blowing…
I am delighted to advise that I took Shadow for a walk this morning, and according to the BOM it was -0.9C when I was walking…first time in my life I’ve walked whilst wearing a singlet, a rugby jumper and a vest…and also (oh the ignominy!!) a baseball type cap…and I did not get hot!
It was exhilarating and I will do it again…
Still feels cold…winter’s last fling before summer, I guess…
clear skies, warmish as such about 19 at present looking for about 21 today, and a touch warmer over the coming days.
Clear skies here as well, and not breeze which is a mercy…19C here and looking at 27C later on…
I think we were around 5 this morning. Now 10 degrees. I’ve been for my first bike ride in quite a few weeks and then a walk with the dogs. Buschka is in fine fettle this morning, quite happy. The big collar will have to stay on so she doesn’t scratch at her ears. But it is not bothering her overly much…probably bothering us more as she hasn’t yet got the idea that her head is wider so she is whacking into door jambs and our legs.
Going to be 29C today, 31C tomorrow…hello summer You are a bit early!!

More like wild winter weather. It’s a bit blowy today. The man sent me ph pics of 40 foot containers blown over and others shifting. The chooks are in their coop trying to stay upright on the perch. I’ll have some wind barrier work to do when I can.
I picked up 16 sheets of clear polycarbonate sheeting, free. That oughta do it. Some will replace the white poly’c roof on the patio over the AP beds.
Going to be 31C today, so they say, reckon PainMaster might be cooler where he is…
Freezin here. I’m over the cold now, whinge whinge. Suns shining, at least :)

Noice…
Bit windy here…..I have to keep going out to put up the prop line again. Still, I reckon a Hills hoist might have turning inside out like an umbrella by now. I’ve got some smelly dog rugs on the line to get them blown and rained before I commit them to the washing machine.
:)

30C, dropped to 13C at 06:00 earlier, I have 3 blankets plus old rotten “comforter” and am OK with a thin t-shirt…but it will cool off later this week, 6 and 27 on Tuesday and 5 and 24 on Wednesday…thinking about my season ticket at the pool already…

currently 25ºC at the mo’. Meant to drop as low as 22º and get up to 30º later. Same same all week, 22º and 30º, 22º and 30º. I think Tuesday is meant drop to 23º for something different.

As a matter of pinterest, does the Max climb much higher in the Wet, or PNG just gets more rainfall?

Same. Makes it hard when the min for the night is 32C and the thick cloud cover means there’s no breeze…(no temperature inversion)…
I’ll concede coldness today….it’s around 2 degrees out there. Still blustery and showery intermittently. Supposed to have lows in the very low numbers for a few days, then moving to 8 or 9 for night and mid teens for day. That’s my kind of weather. We are going to the beach for a few days next week…..I’ll take my gumboots and raincoat and wander on the sand. I love it!
(I hate the beach in summer)

The blustery and showery would make it feel colder…why would you wear gum boots on sand, don’t you like the sand between your toes? (Idle curiosity drives me…)

it’s winter and cold and wet and don’t want wet feet?
I like beaches in winter too. Not a sunburn, sticky sand, crowds and bare skin sort of person.
Been raining just about every night for quite a while now. Good for setting up for Spring/Summer crops but not so good for lambing.
>>don’t you like the sand between your toes? (Idle curiosity drives me…)<<
Yes…but not from the Southern Ocean in early Spring. Water straight off the Antarctic, and winds to match!

I stood at Mev’s grave the other day in White Cliffs thinking, today Merv would have said: “with the wind blowing off the bloody big southern ice block”. Strange as he was the kind of guy who only changed one thing about his dress. After he took his boots off he put on a pair of thongs. Otherwise it was blue singlet and a pair of shorts.

We’ve been really pushed to hit 8 degrees all day today. The woodheater is struggling a bit. But later in the week we should go above 10 during the day.

I’m led to believe that it is physically impossible to have the weather anywhere get to 40ºC and 99% humidity. Some people say it may feel like that, but there’s a correlation between temp and humidity that means it just isn’t possible. It may seem to be that way but it can’t happen. I have travelled to Lae and heard that it was close to 40ºC but while it felt disgustingly humid, it was prolly only around 70%. With an even higher dew temp, then it was able to rain at night.
I’m happy to be corrected.
What it does seem is that Moresby is in a super duper rain shadow one that would concern a Townsvillian and our wet season is a mirror opposite to our winter. I mean our wet is one weekend in January and our winter is one weekend in late July. The rest of the year it is same same, just varies a few degrees from time to time.
Watching the news each morning and looking at all the places that I have friends and family living in Australia I will say this; Moresby is not as hot as Darwin, Broome or Townsville in the Daytime, but we know how to keep the warmth in. I have seen the temp drop below 20ºC in Moresby on only 3 occasions in the 3.5 years I have lived here and then it only just got to 18ºC. But I have rarely seen it go over 34ºC but on many occasion, the “feels like” temp has often been 40ºCplus.
I have had to wear a suit on maybe 8 occasions this year, and last week’s suit wearing occasion in the late afternoon was mildly pleasant… not the sweatfest that it was back in April.

Wow one would think it “rains all the time” in POM, as it’s “so close to the Equator”, but from previous reading between the lines I realised that POM has a wet and a dry…just didn’t cotton on that each lasts a week only!! Townsville’s seaside but it is mostly as dry as…
So if you like the low to mid 30’s, POM is quite balmy, and it’s a fact that dry heat / warmth is more bearable than humid heat…
Obviously suits in your area would have to be super light weight…
I think this is an apt weather for Pest Inspections as the pests come up during this time and attack the plants and garden soon enough.
